Introduction:

Sifu Tommy Carruthers has trained under Bruce Lee's students from Seattle, Oakland and Los Angeles. In Seattle it was Jesse R. Glover (Bruce's first student) In Oakland it was Howard Williams (Bruce's best student in Oakland - http://www.oaklandjkd.com) In Los Angeles it was the highly regarded Ted Wong. Currently Tommy (or "TC" as some of his friends call him) is a Jeet Kune Do instructor recognized by the Bruce Lee Educational Foundation (http://www.jkd.com) as well as instructor under Sifu Ted Wong -

Tommy Carruthers is a unique martial artist. Not only is his background in JKD but also in Wing Chun, Karate and boxing. Unlike many martial arts teachers Tommy worked for several years as a bouncer in nightclubs. He had many opportunities to use what he had learned in real situation and these experience have directed his teachings toward only the things that work.

The first time that Jesse Glover saw Tommy punch he told him that he punched with speed and power close to Bruce Lee's. It wasn't until two years later that he saw him kick and when he did he told him that he also kicks with speed and power close to Bruce's.

Tommy is about Bruce's size and weight. He has a very good strength to weight ratio and is a lot like Bruce. He has fast twitch muscles and explodes when he strikes. At the San Francisco meeting of the JKD Nucleus he broke a bone in the hand of the man who was holding the focus mitt during one of the punching drills.

Steve Smith, a little known but excellent martial artist in America made the following statement: "I had the pleasure of holding the focus mitt at the Los Angeles JKD convention but after two hits to the glove I had to decline to hold it anymore. The force of those two strikes bruised my palm through the mitt. Tommy has amazing speed, power and technical ability. I would not have believed that a person his size could generate such speed and power if I hadn’t experienced it."

Jesse Glover made the following statement: "If you want to see and experience what a person can do through dedication to practicing Bruce Lee’s martial art you owe it to yourself to attend seminars with Tommy Carruthers."

"Regarding the upcoming seminar in Canada, I would strongly advise anyone interested in seeing Bruce's art portrayed by an individual with exceptional abilities to attend this. Sifu Carruthers is one of few people who know the methodologies behind Bruce's teachings and can actually APPLY REALISTICALLY!! As a teacher of the art, he can bring out the trueness in each student, of which he has many who can also apply this unique knowledge- thus showing that the art is applicable to individuals who can make it "specifically their own". Anyway, if you get the chance to absorb some of Sifu Carruthers wisdom, jump at it.
Regards, BC"
