guy is definitely fast. i think the biggest criticism i'll levy:

the form on the "pullups" file -- they weren't even pullups, they were chinups, and he only did about 3/4 the full range of motion. :p

of course, this is only because i have to read every post by ironfist and ford about form and ROM. :D

ok , i've watched a few more clips, and basically while the guy Is fast , most of that stuff could have been summed up in 4 or 5 clips. he's basically doing the same thing.

still, cool.

It was all a little "slappy" and pulled to look faster. Someone who isn't put off by the slaps will not stop.

The framerate was a little off too, it gave it that blurred look.

The backfist was a bit too shouldered and not enough snap from the elbow for my taste.

Fast kick, not bad.

Flame away................

What, besides good speed, is this guys claim to fame?

he was quick but i agree'd a little too slappy.

the guy definetly does have talent.

It really looks like Kenpo. They use a technique called rebounding to create greater speed. It's pretty cool stuff.

This guy has great speed and movement. I like how he will bring his entire body to the fight. My only concern is that he keeps his hands down when advancing. Of course when you are as fast as he is you can get away with that, but it's not the best teaching method for his slower students.

As for being "slappy" it doesn't bother me as he is using the quick choppy techniques to open the door for a more powerful follwothrough. He forces you to react to the disracting blows and then hits you with his backhand combos.

Where can I read more about this "rebounding" technique used to create speed?

who IS "the guy"?

I'm glad to see that there are some people here who know enough to see the weaknesses in what this guy is doing. I'd like to see how his slap fest would go if someone were to heavily counter punch him in the midst of one of his flurries. But his students would be too cowed and respectful to ever do that.

One thing I see him do constantly and which will cost him, is that he'll get good position on his first bridge, but instead of driving it in collapsing and following with a heavy strike, he pulls it back to replace it with another hand. Sort of like Wing Chun, Lap Da, or Bong Sau into Tan Sau.

That first bridge on the first clip when sitting (http://www.swissbudo.ch/files/020801jkd1.mpg ) illustrates this perfectly. Play it slow. His right hand captures both arms of the other guy, instead of leaning in and pinning, he hovers where he's at, withdraws and replaces.

Unnecessary moves are costly.

He looks like a guy who has at least 5 years WC experience and can hold his own on the street. His students aren't waisting their money though. They're learning.

Hey, this guy named "Crusader" on that board had this to say:

"You're right. The other guy doesn't even defend himself. The material wasn't supposed to show real sparring or self-defence. You would being amused about the story behind those videoclips. Without knowing this context, it is hard to critize...."

Does anyone know "the story behind those videoclips?" Someone post there or email him or something and find out.

I also noticed that that guy seems to stomp on the ground a lot which makes a lot of noise.

Does the kicking and footwork drill look a little speeded up to anyone else, about 6 secs into the 11 sec clip his movement looks a little weird.

NPMantis, which clip are you talking about?

Does anyone know "the real story behind those clips" yet? I'm so curious.

i find myself wanting to say that i don't like all the patty cake stuff, but the statement:

has some merrit, and i'm sure the guy is no pushover. maybe he's got a different stratagy for power punchers ... or maybe he's content in being able to beat up people who don't punch like tyson.

Actually, in the original (Vedic) context of the word, karma (or punya, meaning merit) is accumulated based on how well you perform the obligations set out by your dharma, which is determined by fate/the Gods. In fact, in the Bhagavad Gita Krishna explains to the protagonist that it is obligated by his dharma to go into battle on this day, and that to succumb to sentimentality and not slay the friends and relatives arrayed on the field against him would degrade his karma and delay his passage along samsara.

So it may well be that GDA's dharma obliges him to mock the retarded and beat up old people, and each such action that he takes brings him closer to ultimate transcendence. Who are we to question the gods? :D
