After severely pulling my hamstring taking a throw yesterday, I'm going to have to say I probably haven't been stretching as correctly as I thought. I could really use some tips on stretching out my hamstrings and getting more flexability fairly quickly. Any advice?

Oh, and one final question-- what's the best way to recover from a severe pull? Anything that I can do to speed up the healing process?

sit in warm bath with epsom salt. Take interior liniment.
Just kicking forward with your leg straight is a good hamstring stretch... Stand up and try to pull your chest to your knees...
Sit down with knees slightly bent, feet together, touch toes...
Ill list more when I think of them.

Active Isolated stretching, see Mattes or Wharton.

I find it much more effective than static or pnf. With other additinal benefits as well.

Check it out.

Thanks fellas.

Barry, could you go into more detail on that isolated stretching?

Maybe this (http://www.stretchingusa.com/aboutAIS.cfm)
Or this. (http://www.aistretch.com/exercises.htm)

As above links.

Im not a very flexible person so I dont know how affective they are for advanced stretchers, however I have made impressive improvements over the last month of doing AIS, more so than when i was doing PNF and static.

Does anyone else active isolated??

I would like to hear good or bad opinions?

Been holding off on the sprints, Keith. ;) Been doing a lot of elliptical running instead, as it's easier on my body.

Thanks for the links, Meat. My hamstring's already beginning to loosen up, thanks in no small part to those stretches (and the 13 Tai Po).
