Okay, I stumble on these two clips on a HK northern mantis site. One is Chow and the other is Zhu (okay, my cantonese isn't too good).

without further bs, here's the clips.

Awesome clips, I've always been fascinated by SPM. Is it me, or do they seem a little rigid when performing? I've seen some clips of SPM from carbonecho.com (before it shut down) and they seemed a little more fluid then that, though in a couple clips they came off kind of stiff like that.

well, it look like a hard style. I need to see more to see if it is rigid or was it just this particular form being performed. But, southern mantis stuffs are hard to come by, so I don't think I'll be seeing more anytime soon.

WanderingMonk, I still have (thank God) the clips from Carbon Echo on my computer of the SPM. They include: a staff form, a butterfly sword form, 4 different attacks with the hands: Phoneix Eye, Spear Hand, Roatating Fist and Back Hand Strike. 4 very basic applications, 3 stance related things, and some other forms. The forms are named 18 Point Form, Som Bo Jim, and something called Som Bo Jim Chak Jung which reminds me of Chi Sao. Leave your e-mail address and I'll see about sending them to you tonight. Only thing is you will need Quicktime.

Hi Philbert,

I sent you a PM with my e-mail address.

If it becomes too much of a hassel, don't worry about it.

My e-mail box can only handle about nine megs. So, it might not all fit.

Anyways, thanks for the kind offer.

according to the HK site, the Chu Gar Mantis was done by Sifu Zheng Yun (of course, this is mandarian pronounciation).

The Chow Gar mantis was performed by Sifu Lee Tian Lai (also mandarian pronounciation).

According to Mantis7 from the southern mantis forum, the second teacher demo the form: "4th form saam bo pin kiu (three step level or parallel bridge) I may be mistaken but the guy performing it is from the honk kong police academy (but thats a guess)."

If you know someone who speak cantonese and can read chinese, go to http://www.mantismartialart.com/Style.htm
He can find the names of the teachers (of the two demo) written in chinese under southern mantis category.

Following the international guests, it was time for the Hong Kong based masters to shine, with Master Li Tien-Lai exhibiting the incredible speed and accuracy of the system, with the Shun Fon Sau "tornado hand" form.

taken from our web site: www.londonfungfu.com

I have see my sibak perform the above form which has unbelivabley fast hand movements (the same person as mentioned on the tong long forum mantis7).

most of our forms follow the same 3 step formula. but are more like chi kung sets teaching principles rather than fighting, for that we have fighting sets and jongs. to an outsider the sets could look rigid but this would be incorrect they have be refered to being like icebergs you only see what is above water.

may I ask what web site you found these clips and if it is still up?

the site is www.mantismartialart.com

It is a hong kong based Northern Mantis school. It has a video section in which it showed other northern mantis style and two southern mantis forms (already posted here).

It is a northern mantis site, so I wasn't expecting to see any southern mantis stuff on it. You can check the site out yourself, but it is a chinese language based website.

http://www.mantismartialart.com/Style.htm

The clips were all found on this page, you can click around, but it will mostly be northern mantis with the exception of the two already posted.
