I have a ticket to the 2004 Extreme Knockdown Karate tournament (Sabaki) in Northern Virginia.

And you don't.

Well (a deep hole from which water is gotten), I'm faster than you!

I got a Speed...-ing ticket. They are even holding court about this official commendation that I am faster than you!

There! (nyaaaaaa)

congrats!

You may proceed to gloat at my expense. I like to see my friends happy.

I'd be more impressed if you were fighting in it. ;)

What are the rules of knockdown? No punches to the head but kicks and knees legal? What about throws?

I have always liked Shidokan

Cheers, ST. :)

Funny. Me and the Mrs. bumped into some friends at Pentagon City recently. Father and two kids. Father and son have recently started taking karate together. So he asks if I'd like to go to a tournament with them. I'm thinking he's talking about a triple A local thingee.

Then he hands me a ticket to Sabaki. Good times.

Nice timing on the roundhouse to the face. And the sweep (which was also pretty much a roundhouse, I think).

Thanks Rogue! I'm looking forward to it.

It's at Northern Virginia Community College on the 31st of this month. The Annandale campus. Not too terribly far from you, now that I think about it.

Thanks Ap, I'll look into it. What time does it start and who's selling the tickets?

Shidokan tournaments were always good to watch back in Chicago. Good stuff. Even saw a fight ended with a shoulder throw - but i know that COULDNT have hapened...

I used to live right down the street from that campus.

apoweyn, do you have "general admission" or "golden ring" tickets?

I vaguely remember a really good Shidokan fighter from Chicago, yeah? Used to wear a sleeveless gi or something.

General admission. I'm not one of the favoured few. :)

Thanks for the info Ap. If I head up there we will have to at least say hiya!

I picked up the Sabaki book last year and if you really want to make TKD peeps angry do the shirt sleeve/arm grab grab.:D

Nah. It was a white guy. Years ago. Only other thing I can remember about him was that he wore an odd little wool cap.

*shrug*

Maybe I'm misremembering.

And kick em in the head, per the video. With my lack of flexibility I settled for kicking them in the ankle.

I'm jealous! The Sabaki Challenge is very cool.

Enshin karate is one style I'd love to study. To bad no one around here teaches it.
