Hey yinz,

So, I'm reading through the San Shou rules for the Arnold's in March and I come across this little tidbit under the heading, "Illegal Techniques"
striking opponent's head continuously to deliberately injure opponent

What does this mean? Am I no longer allowed to do a jab-cross-hook combo because that's three headshots? Frankly, this worries me. All my fight strategy is based on deliberately injuring my opponents.

Sometimes, I even hit them in the head not only once, but multiple times as well. :confused:

Well, if I can't throw 4 crosses, I guess I'm getting disqualified. Coach Ross, you guys have fought there before. What's the deal?

Usually, that rule means that if the opponent is unable to defend themselves, you have to stop hitting them. It's like the mercy rule in little league baseball. If you score 9 runs in one inning, odds are you are just going to keep scoring unless someone steps in.

not enforced in the US..... i think internationally it might be enforced(don't know, haven't gone international yet).... but here u can beat the crap out of your opponent all you want.... they might be old rules that they didn't re-write....

OK. This is good news at least.

Sun_Tzu, so are you guys fighting in Ohio March 5?

that's the plan......

Sun has it right. The rule is not enforced in the US and will not be enforced at the Arnold Classic. I was the Ref for about 80% of the matches at the last AC and the only head contact rule was not head contact in the C division.

While we're on the subject, what's the difference between divisions?

Since we're on the subject...

We're fighting under San Da rulez this year. I'm assuming that we can throw knees into the opponents legs as well as the torso. Am I correct?

A=Advanced 10+ fights
B- intermediate
c=beginner....

as for knees................ i HATE them...

So, if I put down that I've boxed but had no sanctioned ring fights, what division would that put me in? Is there a numerical difference between B and C or is that purely the trainer's call?

if C = no head contact.... go to B... unless u puss.... if C= head contact... your call.....

Sun, if they don't allow head contact, I'd be so bored I wouldn't want to play. :D

Me like punch in others face, as my Russian friends are fond of saying.

Sun Tzu, you sound like you had a bad experience with a knee :D

Just playing with ya....

The head punching thing exists in IWUF events, and as stated here, is NEVER used in US. Arnold's as far as I know is San Da with knees this year.
