This morning I, Ng Mui , celebrate my 254th birthday.
Despite the lack of gifts from my ungrateful pupils , I have decided to grant you the greatest gift of all.

Yes, I will answer one question from each of you.
Have patience Ng Mui cannot live in front of the computer as many of you do.

Mark today as the luckiest day in most of your miserable lives. Now let the questions begin.

asks ...admit it you were really a crossdresser weren't you?!?!

Yes, in fact I dressed like all the men at Shaolin.
I was shaved as well.....................My head that is.

How did you re-incarnate as an engineer-many of them are robotic and unimaginative?

I engineered one of the greatest......
No scratch that.
the greatest martial art of all time.
I changed the profile to make it more simple my pupil.

Sorry it confused you.
I'm sure it happens all the time.

Are you still a virgin?.......

Quite a personal question, but that is not surprising coming from this new generation.
Lets see how can I put this..........
I bunked with 108 men at the temple, you figure it out , Grasshopper.

Ng Mui- what do you think of reincarnating as Michelle Yeoh?

Ng Mui

Yuanfen asks......what do you think of reincarnating as Michelle Yeoh?
Please retain what you read.
One question only am I afforded to give each of my students today...... Young Yuanfen.

Besides Michelle Yeoh played the part of my student Yim Wing Chun, not me, in that movie of the same name.

The movie would have been better if my role was expanded and it had actual techniques from my system.

my one question:

how do you pronounce 'Ng'? (did your mom sneeze when the doctor asked what name she was going to give you?)

Yes, grappling should be a part of any well rounded martial art.
So everyone of my decendents should learn to apply my principles to ground fighting.
Old dogs can learn new tricks, they just often refuse.

Ng sounds like (NIG), when spoken correctly.
Practice it this week and we will work on two syllable words next.

What is the underlying concept of the energetics in Siu Nim Tau?

Ng Mui

Da_Moose asks
What is the underlying concept of the energetics in Siu Nim Tau?

We could spend all day discussing, underlying concepts, Centerline theory and such, but these are just means to an end.
Ultimately wing chun was made for combat against a Superior opponent.
Big , strong people need not take Martial arts to learn how to defeat smaller opponents.
The Siu Nim Tao form teaches how ,through clever thinking and action a smaller person can defeat a larger, stronger opponent.

So create fancy terms like energetics, Mind Linking or Chi rooting.

I will stick to my terms like simple, efficient and direct.

Okay, Ms. Mui,

Since you are contacting us from the afterworld (I'm assuming) and you must therefore be somewhat omniscient, who of Yip Man's student's currently teaches Wing Chun closest to the way Yip Man did?

Can you tell my what dialect uses that pronounciation? It definatlely isn't Cantonese and I don't think it's Toishan.

old jong

I think it should sound like "UHN" or like the last syllabe of impersonat"ION"!...

IMO,it shows we don't have the real Ng Mui here!...;) :D

Ng Mui has travelled- likely to have passed through areas with pronounciation differences.
Hooray for Ng Mui and hooray for however it is pronounced--
wc, wt, yc, vt - in Ng Mui's legacy...(in several other styles as well)).

this is truth and the rest is lies

wentwest asks.......

Well, it would be hurtful to name names, so I will not.
But I can say this.
No person is perfect (not even Yip Man), so no person can teach perfect. Having said that we all teach like Yip man.
Yip man found his own way, And encouraged his students to do the same.
That is a lesson everyone can learn from.

It is Southern Min used mainly today in parts of Fujian, Hainan Island and Taiwan.

old jong asks nothing, but tells how he thinks ( Thinks being the key word here) it should sound like "UHN" or like the last syllable of impersonat"ION"!...

Well, I guess I would know how to say my own name, so you leave that to me, young man.
If you are bored Old Jong, devote your time to learning how to correctly spell Wing Chun, Ving Tsun, Wing Tsun, Yong Chong, Etc..................

If you must shed one solitary tear, I suppose you deserve to know the original verses of this wine bibber - Old Khayyam. You can't cheat an old honest nun!

Oh, come with old Khayyam, and leave the Wise

One thing is certain, and the Rest is lies;
The Flower that once has blown for ever dies.

Come, fill the Cup, and in the Fire of Spring
The Winter Garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To fly - and Lo! the Bird is on the Wing

And look - a thousand Blossoms with the Day
Woke - and a thousand scatter'd into Clay:
And this first Summer Month that brings the Rose
Shall take Jamshyd and Kaikobad away.

Deep in December It's nice to remember

Deep in December It's nice to remember
The fire of September That made us mellow

Deep in December Our hearts should remember
And follow follow follow.....

When I find myself in times of trouble
Ng Mui comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

What underlying energetic conundrum again.
S.N.T. is simply about reacting simplistically.
How's that simpleton.

Da_Moose
01-25-2004, 04:49 PM
Old Jong,

I would think that despite her age, her training should have ingrained it into her after all of these years, so the answer shoudl be spontaneous, none of this beating around the bush.

Ng,

Energetics and reactions are different, or so I thought. I don;t need a form to teach be how to move out of the way if something is thrown at me. Do/did you?

I am referring to the specific energy of the form. Is it forward energy, raising energy, opening energy, collapsing energy, stiff energy, fluid energy?

Steve,
The Ranting Simpleton.

Ng Mui

Da Moose replys .....I am referring to the specific energy of the form. Is it forward energy, raising energy, opening energy, collapsing energy, stiff energy, fluid energy?

Energy of movement .....nothing else.
All the Energies you mentioned above were terms created by followers of Wing Chun as a method of setting themselves apart.
As if they could impart or obtain that which does not exist,
There is no Magical Energy in S.N.T. , other than the perfection of the human body in motion.
Chi is also not magic. Chi is controlled adrenaline and focus.......Not some hocus pocus.
S.N.T. will help develop focus, as will a great many other endeavors.
Many students today cannot see the forest for all the trees.
Also, as you know, you are not a Simpleton Steve.......
you are a precious pupil , in search if the truth,
and I feel you will find it.

Ng Mui, you are quite impressive at such an advanced age and yet you still possess a sharp wit. Thank you for gracing this forum with your presence.

Can you tell me your thoughts on Lin Sil Di Dar (offense, defense, and jamming within every movement) and how important it is to effective wing chun?

By the way, I love your analogy of Chi and I agree 100 percent. I think its always best to keep things simple and direct.

Wing Chun works best when offense is defense.
Strike as your opponent strikes and he will stop and defend or continue with his attack, but half hearted.

Jamming should be the natural result from constant forward pressure, from both your arms and lead leg.

It is important to effective Wing Chun, as are any of our principles.

old jong asks ...Hey Mui!...
Were you really shaolin?...

Yes, I was. Despite what modern man has said.
Believe it or not, Old Jong, Some say I never existed at all.

These are the same scholars who said there was not a southern Shaolin temple. (until they found it)

I bet these are the same men who also believe we descended from apes and that Pro wrestling is real.
