Just wondering if anyone has bought the Butterfly Knives or Ipe long pole from The Great lion site (www.woodendummy.net[url)

If so, what do you think of the quality and workmanship? Just wondering if I shouldget one along with my dummy.

Thanks in advance :).

One of my friends bought a pole at the same time he bought his dummy. It's a good pole. Good taper, nice-n-straight, good finish. Mr. Thornton puts out a proven product. If I were in the market for one right now, that's the one I would buy.

Brithlor,

it doesn't say so explicitly, but the review implies it:

"Anthony found that the Hanwei blades do tend to "stick" a little in their scabbards. "Some may find this annoying," he added, "but I kind of like it because it acts as a security device." These are live blades, after all, Anthony pointed out. It's best not to have them slipping out accidentally."

I don't know why else he would be concerned about it if the edge were dull.

Curtis,

I have a pair of the $39 ones (but I actually only paid half of that), and they are really not even worth that price. The handguard protrudes past the hilt, and anytime you use any wrist force to "snap" the blade down, that piece which sticks out will push into your wrist. -I had to modify the handles so that they could be used at all.

Both the $39 and $59 ones on the page you mention also have the type of hanguard which is very impractical if you train in a family which flips the knives back across the forearm.

I agree with you that (most of the time) you get what you pay for.

-Lawrence
