I think maybe your INBOX was empty. Remember that it saves a copy of every message you send. So clean out your OUTBOX, too; select it from the drop down menu.

I had the same problem before. I was like "wtf? my PM box is empty!" and someone was like "uh, don't forget to clean out your outbox as well."
