View Full Version : Um, what kind of cup do you use? (adult topic :p )

Alright, yeah. I'm about to go to class but I wanted to ask this question.

What kind of cup do you use? I have one of those generic ones that you can buy at any sports store. The jock strap has different sizes, but the actual plastic cup comes in two sizes, child and adult. I have an adult one.

Staying mature on this topic, it's a very tight fit. Is this normal? I don't mean tight like "duh dude it's a cup, it's supposed to be tight," but I mean like it takes me a few moments to package everything away nicely. Is that normal? It helps greatly if I'm, um, cold, when I'm putting it on.

Do they make bigger, more comfortable cups?

IF, I think that's more than any of us ever wanted to know.

Anyway, don't know if this will help or not but I thought it was funny so I figured id share:

http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=512262&cp=&searchId=10348348557&keywords=jock+straps&parentPage=search

Also you could try taking a cold shower before you put the cup on. Maybe packing it in the freezer the night before you class would add extended comfort too. :p

IF go to www.everlast.com. Get something like that if your banging -- no pun intended -- hard. I find the bannana-shaped cups are best for adults, not the traingle type.

I really don't like the one I have now... it sort of chaffes the inside of my thighs until I get all settled.

I prefer this:

I know, it's cheesy but it had to be done.

P.S. Do a google search for pics of large thimbles

Ok. Geez is it hard to get a serious answer? For those of you here who wear cups when you train, what kind do you have?

The first one i bought was like yours IF, adult but too small. It never seemed to "cup" anything. just sort of sat on stuff if you know what i mean.

The one i have know is from a different company(I think) and is the right size, but digs into my skin somethin awful. I'm actually getting a rash.:(

edit: i'm washin it right now, but I'll see what kind it is when it gets out.

I just got a new one because the cup actually cracked on the one I'd had for over 5 years....long enough that I had forgotten that new cups suck. my old one was a Tiger Claw adult size and my new one is from "D i c k's Sporting Goods" (no joke)

That's where I get most of my sports stuff, actually. You can get wrestling gear hella cheap there when it's in season.

didn't know where that chain extended to and it was pretty funny considering the topic

If you wear cycling shorts under your cup it will help reduce the irritation. More Lycra = Less Friction:)

I think you should work more on "iron balls" instead of "iron hand".....

I only wear mine when I fence and spar. It is never comfortable, I just take the pain. just go make one.... I'm sure you can make one

ok, first of all, I only wear a cup when actually sparring.

wearing one all the time is weird frankly, why, why would you do that?

for the amount of time you are sparring, you are getting chaffing?

dude, put a little vaseline on the outside edge of the cup and that should clear that up. oh, and shower regularly.

cheers

We wear cups in all our group lessons or private lessons. We're not sparring all that often but our training on even technical points is very physical. Everyone is expected to wear a cup as most instructors assume you do, and hit first, questions (and laughter) later.

We were doing a photo shoot for another mag... fan applications, well one of the apps ends with a groin strike.. I was waiting to go do my straight sword form (which doesn't require a cup, obviously) and we were running through them, whack, I almost started crying.... too bad it wasn't being shot, that would have been a great reaction picture.

^ I'm not sure I understand that. What is "Cash point: 0.28"?

And what's with the weights?

"Weight : S-130g / M-140g / L-150g / XL-160g"

Is that the weight of the cup? Why would they give that?

I use a codpiece shaped like a turnip. All the time. It doubles as a love machine, and a blackjack to administer lethal killing blows. Size AA batteries.

Cups suck. No matter how long I try packing in, I always end up pinched. I guess I'm just hyoooooge. Oh no, wait, I live in Japan.

Nowadays I just don't wear them, I use the Larry Mo and Curly school of nut protection, through the George Weiner Bush Lineage: if you think they're gonna kick you in the nuts, kick them in the nuts first. I don't have many male friends.

Get yourself a cricket box. They normally come in a range of sizes. Plus you can get those undies with the pocket in the front to stick the box into (they used to call them "box jocks" at school).

I use bike. BUT, I just started using it - I got it like a month ago. I played football in HS and never used one, never wore one while grappling or in the ring. We had an influx of newbs with a tendency to kick low, so I thought it'd be best to finally invest in one.
