Serious answers only please. I would like to learn more about herbs and medicine but am not interested in making concoctions or hurting my body over time by over consuming medicine. Now, having said that, I am looking for basic solutions and suggestions on the following.

The past few months since christmas I have been tired all the time. I have had this for about 3 or 4 years but this past year and especially after christmas things have gotten worse. I'm always drowsy and have no drive to force myself to do anything beyond: working out, training, attending the dojo, and playing hockey. Everything revolves around getting the energy up to do those activities. Even when I am tired I can get the energy up to train and then i feel better. BUT, at work ,I feel the urge to doze of and do sometimes. On the bus home i am forever falling asleep and then twicthing as I awake with a strike or an elbow. At night I can't get to sleep before 12: 30. Now my mom (mom's always know eh?) Has suggested I try St.john's Wart which would help minor depression and energy levels so I wanted to know what any of you thought, as well as suggestions on when one should stop taking herbs. Are there cut off points or does one need to keep it up?

The only thing I can think of now is that minor depression is affecting me on the subconcious level, not being fullfilled at work, or maybe lack of certain elements in my diet are contributing to the condition. Then again, working out, training, and playing hockey all in one day is probably not a good idea either hehe. Anyway, I'd like to hear what you people have to say because being drowsy all the time sucks. furthermore, is there any evidence to suggest that alcohol may contribute to this as well? I only drink on the weekends when i go out but I could be allergic i suppose. Anyway, interested in hearing what you think.Would tai-chi or Yoga breathe new life into me perhaps?

p.s- and no i don't put on my ninja outfits and run around in the forest during spring so it is not lime desease.

Thanks.

The first thing I would look at is diet. Too much greasy, fried, sugary foods impead the function of the spleen to transform and transport. One way to tell is to look at your tongue. If the surface at the middle is covered with a thick coating then there is a problem with transformation and transportation. Another thing to look at is lifestyle. Too much sexual emissions will weaken the body's organ functions. I don't believe in one herb fixes. I would go to a doctor of Chinese medicine for a diagnosis. This would be best.

Sexual activity can resultin this? I mean i have had that before from not getting enough sleep after wards but I have been single for over 6 months and i avoid the greasy foods for the most part. But maybe a shift towards more natural foods instead of canned vegetables and such would be in order.

Thanks, anybody else who has something to offer feel free.

Like money in the bank which you have a certain amount in, yet the bank invests it to make them more money and you might get som interest off of the money that was yours and others that they used; sperm seems to merely be there until...O.K I'll come out with it, ejaculation~ but there is also the concept that the body can invest something about tthe sperm to promote health or ability. So, loss of sperm, even the natural way, couldbe...draning you or a drain on you.

It could be one thing or your particular mix of living. nullWhat happened five years ago that is different from five years and a day?(you get me?--this is not an offer:-)).

Very some such, perhaps might have been, likely say some, some not.

Minor depression isn't so minor if it continues over several weeks. I certainly would discontinue alcohol injestion, as that is a depressant. I'm not particularly in favor of herbal remedies, unless adequately informed about them. They are as much a drug as anything.
One thing did come to mind immediately, given the seasonal quality of your problem. You might have a day length problem, and that can really get some people down. I would look into that if I were you.

On what was posted about it being a seasonal thing, you may want to have a check into something - called SAD I think (seasonal affective disorder or something like that). If there's a reply I will verify that and grab some info.
I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 3 years (grade 8 9 and 10 were essentially spent at home). I think the last year was mostly mental. Didn't really care anymore, or even think about feeling better, I just assumed and accepted I was like that. To a certain extent though, exercise will make you feel better - *LIGHT* exercise. Too much will wipe you out, but, as hard as it may be to motivate yourself, bursts of it make you feel a lot more energized.
I will write more if it's still a problem.
Take care

I'm a little skeptical about the whole loss of qi thru "popping your cork" theory. Energy is stored in fat too - so is being fatter better? That's not true, as statistically, lean people are healthier than fat people. Current western thought says that s*x 3X/week is the optimal amount - enough to keep your hormones released, but not too much to deplete u. So is moderation the key here? As far as the old boxing adage to avoid s*x before fights, many boxers today still abstain for 2 weeks prior. However, I believe they've done studies where s*x only wears u out for 2 hrs afterwards, and after that, doesn't really affect your performance, and some say it even improves it.

I've wondered about this topic, and would like to see it proven one way or the other.

I also doubt it could be responsible for chronic fatigue syndrome or chronic mild depression. I've actually heard that may be linked to yeast infections, or various other causes. But who the h*ll knows??

i think stroking your trouser-snake and s*x are totally different... the day after some good lovin with my woman, i usually feel more energized and ready to go (usually 10 or so minutes afterwards), but the morning after a lonely night to myself; i always feel drained of energy and in a slump

mabye its just me

I just read somewhere about something called "sleep apnea". Something to do with the throat or tongue relaxing during sleep and sealing off the airway.. causing you to go without oxygen for a little bit. You then wake up, often not remembering it, and then go back to sleep. Some symptoms were waking up often in the night, sometimes with a dry throat..
Drinking alcohol before going to bed could escalate it, because it caused the throat to relax..
I don't know much about it, and it could be a longshot.. but try looking up some info on "sleep apnea".

there is absolute truth in ejaculation (by any means) depleting one's Jing and by Jing Deficiency one will weaken the Kidneys. This Kidney weakening maybe, along with the prior mentioned Spleen Qi Xu (deficiency), the cause of your general lack in energy. The Spleen maybe doing due to dietary disharmonies and the Kidney due to Jing depletion. A Chinese herbalist and/or Acupuncturist could do well to treat your Yuan Source points on both Wood and Water channels (thats Spleen and Kidney).

So you go to sleep at 12:00? And wake up when?

If you are NOT getting at least 8 hours of sleep, THAT IS the cause of your problem (According to "Doc Dragon" anyway).

I need 9 hours of straight sleep a night. If I don't get it, I'm EXACTLY like you describe.

Can't sleep? Try some warm "Cat Nip" tea before bed. It's a stimulant for cats, but a mild seditive for people, and can be found in most health food stores. Careful though, too strong a dose will make it hard to get up in the morning. I like mine best with some honey to sweeten it.
Also, when I went through this, I found some strong Ginseng in the morning to be benificial as well, Just don't make it too strong or you'll be up all night.
