You get better at the things you practice. You don't get better (except slowly, incidentally, and by accident) at what you don't practice.

Generally, you get better with practice. The only exception may be if you had bad habbits that you lost by not practicing, and then when you went back to practicing you didn't pick them up again.

What's on your mind that you'd ask this question?

Something 7* and I were talking about in the latest version of the "art or artist?" thread.

I didn't read that thread.

Can I have the Cliff's Notes version?

Well, indeed. If you don't practice it, it won't be as good.

However, there are different ways to practice. I've listed a couple of links to studies regarding visualization and improvement in athletic ventures.

I submit that visualization is an important practice, and not just an important part of practice. It is a world all it's own.

Okay, I brought all that stuff up to back up this statement: forms/set/kata practice, even when done without a partner, can and does improve fighting ability.

But, if you do neither the physical or the mental practice, you're fugged.

I think therefore I think I am better by thinking I am practicing to be better.

you can yes get better without pratice
dont ask me how it works though
but it has happened to me, believe it or not

but the improves would be most definately greater if one had praticed
and also one would have better control over the growth
