Samurai swordsman charged after attack

A WOMAN'S hand was almost severed in a savage attack in Brisbane, police said today.
Two other people were also hurt in the alleged attack.
Police said a man armed with a samurai sword and a knife broke into a house in Ruth Street, Birkdale, at 7.30pm (AEST) yesterday.
They said the 43-year-old woman received several cuts to her arm, as well as stab wounds to her abdomen.
A 43-year-old man received cuts to his face and a deep cut to his forearm, while a 20-year-old woman received injuries to her hands, including a partially severed thumb, wounds to her head and neck and a stab wound to her chest, police said.
A neighbour intervened and managed to disarm the man.
He was later found at Toogoolawah, north-west of Brisbane, police said.
A 21-year-old man will face court today charged with two counts of attempted murder, breaking and entering and unlawful wounding.
