hey all,

what's the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you or you received when you began to practice chi sao?

The best advice i got was to focus on learning one offensive technique at a time. Though I wanted to try everything out at once (new toys to play with!) it really helped me clean up my movements.

just curious, thanks,

jason

best advice: Attack the body, not the arms.

I'll second that greedy.

What my sifu taught me:

Technique is cool, but chi sau is really all about proper positioning. Don't try and move "fast" or "sneaky" to get your strikes in like a game of tag. Doing that too much will quickly develop into a form of point sparring wherein you flash your punch in, poke your partner in the chest, and think you "got him".

Keep your movment slow enough that you can work your positioning WITH the proper power. Practicing chi sau to develop fighting attributes is about learning to utilize your entire body behind each movement to gain superior positioning.

Go slower to learn faster.
