So what is this about. Yip Man did the Sil lum Tao is 4 hours.

so I want a contest. Yes I know that people could just put something fake on here. But I ask that everyone be honest out of respect for wing chun and martial arts in general. Sil lum tao is a good gi-gong. When I do it I use some of the focus not only of qi but yi (intent) which is used alot in Yi Quan and Hsing-i. stuff like imagining Iam breaking a wall hit palm strikes that can push down a train etc.

I'll start
last night I did it in 20 Minutes November,10 from 1:10 to 1:30 but I could of went longer.

lets go.
we will see who is the frist to get past 4 hours someday ha.
to be consistent please record here thanks

i'd rather spend my time sparring, working out, doing drills, chi sau, and running etc.

1/2 is enough for me thanks. Spend over 4hours? What the hell is the point in that? Maybe this is why kung fu people get laughed at all the time. You can't fight for d*ck, but you can do slt for 4 hours. Great.

Fire away lads.

All i wanted was some RICE CAKES! Now? WE MUST BATTLE.

Sil lum tao is made to build qi and teach proper techniques. It is the ground of wing chun. Without a root how can a tree grow?

look to Wing Chunners out there for real record how long you take to do sil lum tao gi-gong.
The horse stance (any one martial art style)alone builds qi just build staying in it for a long time. the movement of your blood and motion inside you body with the stillness or you body these 2 opposites create engery=qi. come on this will be fun to see who can do it. :D :p :D :p :D :o :) :) :o :o :o :D :D ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :p ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :o ;)    :) :o  ;) :p :p :) :)
just give it a try.

i hardly think he was so amazing, just cos he spent all day doing SLT. It is not some special mystical miricle. I'm sure he did a lot of other things too.

4 hours my ass. Get the person who can spar for four hours, put him up against a person who can do slt for 4 hours, see who wins.

Some arts need sparring...such as boxing.

Some dont...such as wing chun.

A man who greatly understands the fighting art of wing chun gets his understanding through the forms.
A man who greatly understands the fighting art of boxing gets his understanding through a **** load of sparring.

You are a boxer and your thinking like a boxer.

If a wing chun guy trained more on his forms then sparring he would be better at wing chun then if he did more sparring.

A wing chun guy can get in very good shape and learn how to fight as two seperate things.

He would learne how to fight by doing his wing chun.
And get in shape doing whatever physical activities he chooses to do.

All I am getting at is a boxer gets better tecnique by mostly sparring and a wing chun guy gets his by mostly forms.

Practitioners of some of the internal arts build incredible power through standing meditation. It sounds what Yip Man was doing was something similar. If anyone doubts the existence of internal power, go visit a good internal school and feel it for yourself. Be prepared for a surprise.

Back to the original question. I usually spend 20 minutes doing SLT.

a new NEW shape one? The mini One can start just under £11000, and go all the way up to £16000 - that's in teh uk though.

Wait for the mini cooper S and the other, "well over 200bhp" one comes out

This thread turned into "what are forms supposed to develop?", didn't it?
Am i wrong if I just say that the purpose of MA is to protect one's body: by having good health, and defending against possible threats...?
Isn't Wing Chun an internal/external system? :D

I usually do slt for about 20 minutes also but my best is 31 minutes. My legs were quite sore

i didn't make it turn out that way, i just stated that 4hrs is a stupid amount of time to spend doing slt, when you could be doing better things.

cos, chances are, if you've just done slt for 4 hours, you aren't gonna have a chance to do anything else that day, and forms alone with no application or practice, have no meaning or use.

Remember, wing chun is supposed to teach you how to FIGHT.

4 hour builds qi alot of qi builds kung fu
so there.

pluse this gives on a chance to excerise on yi or intent.
cause yi leads chi or qi

now back to the subject
Ish you did yours in 31 minutes
alright tonigh I plan on doing mind, meditation, qi culitivation and all in 40. and I wiill post it when I do.

Hi there. Fighting skill & ving tsun skill are not
the same thing. (But ving tsun is a fighting systme)
You & I both have not done SNT for four hrs, so how can we make a statment on what you would achive. ( Yip Man could ) & he was probably better
than any of us. A large part of SNT is for power.
Do you do things such as punching with weights.
The best masters don't they do stuff like SNT.

Gary. :(

Sharky...if I worked on SLT for four hours...then on other forms.and then wreslted four 4 hours do you think I would be waisting my time?

My wing chun would get extremely good...

Four hours of my day isnt much...I dont have anything that I have to do...

Thanks Ish ,Martial Joe for your support. I didnt write this forum as an attempt to educatate "know it alls" who dont believe an anything that they didnt already know. Say while your dropping knowledge please get others to post there sil lum tao time.

Yes this is a contest. a Game you might say to keep record and to see when people start to max out and cant take it anymore.
This is an experiment. and will push some people achieve a higher level at sil lum tao at least if not Wing chun kungfu and hopefully kungfu in general.

so post your times thankx.
oh and sharky

Know that.

Heres my view on why do a slow SLT or anything for that matter. Its like a baby. In order for the baby to run,it must first learn how to walk profictiently(Think I spelled that right). When I Do Slow SLT I do every movement slowly. I then listen to my body and ask myself, "Is there anypart of my body at this point of movement that is tense?","Am I moveing with my whole body power","Is my root at this position strong, or can I be easily knocked over","Is my energy able to freely flow from the ground up through my body and out my hands". In this way I train my body to be totally relaxed through the whole movement. I know that the whole movement will be powerful and supported by the full body and the root. (Plus moving slowly builds those stabalizer muscles pretty good, whats more powerful,a bobbly bullet or a straight bullet).I also find it helps me build patience and concentrate my mind on what I am doing more. This has improved my Wing Chun greatly, cause all that stuff I do slow, comes out fast when the time is needed. Any its not only fast but powerful. You should build your Wing Chun before you can use it. You dont enter a war with tank that has no engine or driver or ammunition. Just my opinion.I know everybodies interpretation will be different from mine, but I don't care, because this way works for me and thats whats important. :)

Hi - i'm just a beginner at WCK, but because i don't see my Sifu so often (being at University) i just train SLT a lot. Right now, i usually end up training it for 30-45 mins.

I know that in my club it's been done for around 2 hours one time (at a residential course) because my best friend and Sihing was there! Thank goodness i missed that one :p

well, i guess i should practise some more? :)

thanks,
david

I agree with you 100%. First you must optomize your technique by doing it slow then you work on speed and power. My Sifu and all the teachers always tell us that. Plus SLT is also a meditation and this makes your WC even better!

Wing Chun is rocks! Woooooh!!!!!!

Finally, someone who understands.

I've been reading this thread for a while (even before i became a member of the forum) and i think that although the topic of this thread is a 'contest', that no one is really doing it to 'compete'. It is more just to compare our level with each other, and figure out how and why training for so long can help your wing chun :)
If you have a lot of experience with WCK then maybe this thread is pointless, but for us who have only been training a while we're trying to figure out things...

thanks,
david
