In many recipes for dit da jow, the ingredient "catechu" appears common to many formulations. However, ingredient listings are notoriously bad for spelling and latin botanical translations.

Thus far I have found 2 different (but deceptively similar spellings) botanicals in TCM corresponding to catechu.

1. Areca Catechu - Bing Lang - a.k.a. Betel Nut

2. Acacia Catechu - Er Cha - a.k.a. Gambir(?)

Does anyone know which is the appropriate herb for dit da applications?

Any info, as always, is greatly appreciated.

are determined by the nature of the injury. The herbs you described have specific properties that may induce, guide, or minister effects of other herbs within the prescription. The formula and pertinent treatments are ultimately determined by the nature and stage of the injury.

Well, I suppose the nature of the injury is percussive, blunt force trauma, contusions, hematomae, etc.

I recently found out Er Cha is the dried paste of a concentrated infusion of Acacia Catechu. This is our herb for dit da - moves blood, prevents stasis.

Bing Lang, on the other hand (if I understand correctly), is used mostly for internal maladies such as gas and upset stomach.
