A friend of mine, "Pete" did some research on Pei Mei, Shaolin and Hung Ga stuff.

kinda interesting read. (Basically read only the "PETE" posts:

Curious to see what the historians on these boards have to say.

Probably. I am sure its Tarantino paying homage to the old school flicks again, but I doubt they actually are trying to make us believe it is THE Bai Mei. Suspension of disbelief cant do that much.

It was supposed to be THE Bak Mei. Quentin got a little carried away. We have a good Bak Mei discussion going in the Shaolin forum.

That would be this discussion (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=29742). The whole southern Shaolin/five ancestors legend is a real mess when you really research it. You can choose to believe it as 'creation myth' much like we believe Tamo was the founded of Shaolin kung fu. Or you can disregard it all as fantasy, which a lot of it is. Or you can try to understand the roots of these stories, which is IMO the hardest but the most fulfilling. It's the hardest because you have to read some history.

You know what I'm going to say O - do your own ****ing research!!! :p
