I would like to pose a question. It seems superficial at first, but I believe there
is underlying significance in the answers.
have you ever had your ass beaten to a pulp?
Contests and tournaments don't count.
How did you feel afterward?were you training
as a martial artist when it happened?what did it
do to your faith in your art?how did it effect
your training?
Be honest!

I whooped some some robbers asses. But out of self-defence. I was walking on the street with 2 other friends, and 3 other guys came up to us .. with no armes ... I mean it was 3on3. And to tell you the truth, the robbers started to get pretty excited, and we just kept cool. They didn't leave, I took the first punch, right on the nose from the "leader". It started ****ing blood and he couldn't see **** no more so ran off, that left us against 2 guys. Then they said "We'll get you guys later!" The funny thing was we were there on a trip, and never returned there since it was a ****ty place anyway :)

Ow btw, I didn't practice any martial arts, but watched a lot of Jackie Chan movies though :)

Me being beaten in a fight happend, but those fights were sissi fights, I mean they are the typical "hiugh school fights" One dude steps on your ego, you get ****ed, even is he's Big Foot you're convinced you can take him out. Get your ass kicked (but actualy on my school we don't actually punch, it's more like who gets the headlock first wins :)) and just leave like nothing happend :)

That one thing with the robbers was actually one of my only fights in my life (if you can call it a fight)

By the amount of smileys in my post you can clearly see I'm not a violent person at all :) I only use it when in serious danger/need. The fights in high school haven't happend to me anymore since 4 years or something ..

I am so seriously NOT proud of this, and I never talk about it. Back in the bad old days, when I used to party way too much and not think about the danger of hanging out with freaky people...

I got loaded at a party in my house (I lived with a bunch of college students at the time), it was way late, like 4 in the morning. This big viking chick, some friend of a friend of a friend, you know how it is. I dunno what set her off, probably my big mouth. She flattened me. None of this cartoony catfight crap guys think is sexy. She laid into me, and didn't stop. Split my lip, loosened a couple of teeth, two black eyes, a cracked rib, sprained wrist and more bruises than I care to remember. Vicious b*tch. I hurt for several months after that.

I have a lot of respect for violence, I understand first hand what physical pain at the hands of someone else is like. Never allowed myself to ever get into a situation like that again.

Not that anything I could possibly have said was excuse for what she did, but my part in it was being arrogant, thinking I was immortal and not using common sense. Not trying to diffuse a situation, instead escalating it, thinking oh yeah, she tries anything I'll just do a martial arts move.. hahaha yeah right, I never got the chance. When that first punch split my lip, my brain went blank. And I was studying TKD at the time. It was a humbling experience, I can tell you that ;)

What did it do for my training? To be honest, it made me take a real good look at both the style and the school. I decided about 6 months later that neither were right for me. It took me a few years after that to quit being a smartass and settle down and fly right. Growing up took a long time for me.

I study with a whole different mindset now. I don't think I'm going to be some shero who wooops a$$ and walks around with a golden aura 'bad guys' can percieve. I know that my best bet to never get seriously hurt is to not escalate anything into violence. But I also know if I'm calm, relaxed and detached, when violence comes I will be able to counter it, do what I need to do.

Yep. I chainpunched a guy three times, and assumed that was enough. I mean hey, he was bleeding. He couldn't possibly want to fight anymore right? I turned around and got tackled from behind. I went down hard and bruised my shoulder, and got choked. My friend pulled him off and that was the end of it. I was bruised for about 2 weeks though.

I'd just like to add a disclaimer to JasBourne's post:

Not all freaky people are giant blood-crazed viking women who attack without provocation.
