So, wing chun is translated in many ways.

"beautiful hope in the springtime"
"song of the springtime"
"new hope for the future"

So which it? All the interpretations are similar.
What is it about the name that makes it have so many interpretations?

Could someone enlighten me on this subject?

http://vtmuseum.org/images/characters/W/wihng_praise_419.gif Whing - To chant, sing, hum (this definition from "Read and Write Chinese by Rita Mei-Wah Choy).

Cheun - Spring

The beauty of the Chinese language is in how much the definitions are implied. You are to use context and general sense to iterpet what is meant.

So, It could mean "Song of Spring" or "Spring Chant". But we are taugt it means "Praise" (which is another char. with similar strcture). Also, http://vtmuseum.org/images/characters/W/wihng_everlasting_247.gif translates as "eternal", note that the radical (char. used as primary portion of another char.) used in Wihng of WC is that of "eternal".;)
