I do that periodically. The breathing through your mouth part can be difficult. I prefer to do that before taking a hot shower-- the steam from the shower facillitates the loosening of the mucus in the nasal passages. You won't believe the stuff your nasal passages holds on to.

The net effect is like being able to breathe "in stereo"; deep and full.
