tai bo is the real street lethal.

that reminds me, one of the U of M instructors comes to our school once a week and he was saying he got started with tai bo! He needed to drop some weight and lost 85 lbs on tai bo.
Now if that doesn't lend capoeira real credibility I don't know what does.

Capoeira may not be the best fighting art in the world. But **** are those guys in good shape. Some of us kung fu guys could take a lesson from that.

The "real" tae bo is only transmitted to closed-door students.

Along with dim mak, tae bo is one of those arts that is too deadly to be entrusted to the masses.

Or, if you can unlock the power of the techniques hidden in the forms...er, routines I mean. Almost impossible for the uninitiated...

Have you ever seen someone 'get served?' It is not pretty, my friends.

What's wrong with Capoeira? Just beacuse they can pull off moves that I'm thinking 90% of the MA-ers in this burg wouldn't even attempt? Ssssyahh...okay... I guess gymnastics is lame & weak too, because they can't do it.

Hey I'm only joking. Red, if you enjoy it, keep it up. I'm guessing you can look after yourself anyway.

I've seen the guys who do Capoeira round my way, and they're built pretty good, really fit etc.

If they could fight they'd be deadly, lol. :)

so angry. Are you still just ****ed off cause of that whole me and your mom thing we had last summer? ;)

scotty1, np man. LOL, capoeira forces you to get into shape. I've only been doing it a month now and I'm in waaaaay better shape then when I started, and you have to figure I was weight lifting and running before hand!

ironfist, alot of the music is pretty catchy in my opinion. paranaue is one of the ones you learn right away cause it's so easy. I am finding that not knowing porteguese sucks though.....

found some info

the song about Paraná
was made cos of the Paraguay war, you know, war we had with Paraguay in 1864 some
It was offered freedom for the slaves who fought and came back alive after winning
But the whites didnt expect that so many dudes would come back alive (wich a lot did)

So the song is the slaves coming back home walking by the Paraná river

My lil translations between [ ] things

Also note this lyrics are a lil diferent than the one you have posted

Vou dizer à minha mulher, Paraná
Capoeira que venceu, Paraná...

[I will tell my wife, Paraná
Capoeira (was the one) that won, Paraná... (won the battle)]

Paraná ê, Paraná ê, Paraná.
[(the "ê" is just singing, dont mean anything)]

Ela quis bater pé firme, Paraná
Isso não aconteceu, Paraná...

[She wanted to "stomp" the ground hard, Paraná (she = the war)
That didnt happen, Paraná...]

Thanks Xebs. Good stuff.

I know the songs we use in the roda have a variety of meanings. Alot of them have to do with slavery, or liberty and freedom. Others are nonsensical while others are about getting the girl or other everyday things.

Well, I guess it is kind of ghey...especially for men (gymnastics not Capoeira).
Got to admire the energy they exert though, & the moves.

red5's not weak & lame, just stirs it up with controversial posts once in a while.

I actually wanted to get into gymnastics when I was young. I worked with the girls gymnastics team, one of my best lifting partners in high school was a gymnast, she was hot too which is always a bonus.

I like the feeling of flying. I'm just starting to get my handtand type stuff down, took a couple of weeks to get the proper strength in my stabilizer muscles. Now I'm able to hold it a litte. Eventually comes flips then some real fancy stuff. Start throwing kicks sweeps and yes, even take downs (saw a cool one last night) and should be a hell of a lot of fun.

Let us know how long it takes to learn how to flip...
I have been trying to learn front handspring for over a year...Still don't spin enough.
Before everyone tries to 'help...'

Don't.
Just don't okay....?
