What does "cut your nature" mean?

yeah i agree!! ....but is there any difference (nutrionally) between the cheap stuff and expensive stuff. as far as i know the cheap stuff gets concentrated then has water added at a later stage so it lasts longer, but its still all OJ (no additives or anything other than water)

Hi stubbs,

I am happy to see that you are still around.

A few years ago I had FRESH SQUEEZED orange juice after over twenty years of the concentrate speckled by a few bottles of the organic stuff; the effect of the juice entering my was so intense that I had to struggle to stay conscious in the train. It was as if I just got the best lay of my life!!

Fresh squeezed is the way to go. Just make sure that your oranges are fresh and free of pesticides.

stubbs,

To answer your question, I don't think there is that much of a difference. The concern for the organic consumers is the pesticides, not the nutritional value.

Do you wear metal shoes or have a metal floor :p.

There are three things to consider here:

1) The more any food is handled the more nutritional value it loses.

Mostly this is in minute amounts: eg if you cut lettuce or herbs with a knife (even stainless steel) the chemical reaction with the metal, and the very action of metal cutting, bruising, scraping very soft leaf matter even down on a cellular level will reduce its value in infintisimal amounts for some veg and larger amounts for others. Some ways of handling food of course recommend that you bruise or rub it. Again with herbs, you should often pat or rub them before you use them, and apples were always rubbed on your shirt when I was a kid (partly of course to clean them and partly because it tastes better for the foollowing reason) to release the aromatic chemical compounds which contain all of the anti-pest poisons and a lot of the highest concentrations of nutritional/medicinal compounds. hese compounds deteriorate very very quickly when out of their natural environment (ie the fruit/veg). But the key is then to eat the food quickly and with a minimum of further processing, cooking etc.

Also consider frozen foods... sure, freezing preserves the food and its nutrional compounds in all its glory, but the defrosting and subsequent reheating will often destroy these compounds on a molecular level which is why the texture of frozen foods is often mush.

2) The longer food is kept the more nutritional value it loses.

3) Why do you think to process something more will cost the consumer less?

Juice is concentrated for ease of transport from different sources over very long distances with little breakdown of flavour. The process of concentration often includes petrochemical extraction methods (this is also the biggest reason why pot noodles and other dehydrated/hydrogenated soy products are basically like: "Want any gas with that?!") which leave residues. The concentrate is then transported, often in tankers also used for oil and other mass transit products which are owned by dodgy cost-cutting magnates with subcontracted cleaner working for peanuts wth third-rate third-hand cleaning machinery (the taste is not usually affected much because of the concentrated condition, but that doesn't guarantee the residues from the previous cargo are not entering your food supply).

So, it ****s on the grannies with nutritional deficiencies picking the fruit, it's put through a dubious chemical extraction method, transported in dirty tankers thousands of miles in all weathers, and then reconstituted with water from where (...? don't even get me on water sources!), then repackaged, transported again and you buy it for 35p.

The question is ytf would you even consider drinking it?!! OK, it does have more Vitamin C than water. I haven't personally checked the dioxin levels but...

Buy yourself a juicer. They're cheap-ish and they can make even horrible food you eat for training taste like heaven.

1 banana
1 grapefruit
1/2 a lemon
two eggs
four egg whites
drinking yoghurt

3 second whirrr (OK so I can't say those blades are exactly reducing handling but...)

hm-mm-mmmmhhhhhh!:o :D

The offset of the cost of the fresh fruit will pay for the juicer in a relatively short time.

If your serious about a juicer get a single or double auger style.
Go a hand cranker:D and you can do all your vegies and things like wheat grass as well.Cheaper a little more cleaning but much better quality end result then centrifical juicers.
This is the type that I own and I recomend it highly.

on top of that, it is healthier to eat an orange than drink it. You get all of it obviously, and the white stuff is actually good for you too.

Personally, I can't just drink a glass of orange juice. It's too sweet. I use about 3/4 glass of seltzer. I call it a "roast beef" but you don't have to

Over this side from a Russels Health food store, shouldn't cost more then $A80.Have seen them in the big GNC stores in Sydney for a little more. The link I posted won't ship to Oz.
Had it for more then 2 years and still no problem with the suction cup(which at first I was a bit suspect about).I recommend cutting up hard vegies but other then that great bit of kit.

sometimes water is short and any fluid ( and even food at times )at all is extremely well appreciated...... even when it's 40 degrees and all they have to offer is tepid to warm water...... I seriously don't think you folks in your western luxury can appreciate life here and what you need to do to contiue living...........gives survival skill a whole other meaning ;)
