When I hit something I hit to the center and that makes the impact of the strike absorbed as much as possiple.
When I hit I just about stop emediately after impact...

What are your methods of striking penetration?

I try to hit through my target
eg if you want to hit someone in the face aim to hit through his head and hit the back of his head

Aiming through your opponent is a misconception of power. Aim in your opponent.

WC isnt about how hard you can hit someone. powering through is not the way. in fact, powering through may cause you to commit too much to an attack, leaving you vulnerable to other responses.

You want to express your energy through your fist, using jing. Remember, yang is nothing without ying: too much power and you will not get proper expression.

I know this is cryptic, but describing a punch in black and white is like telling a blind man what the color red looks like.

A good way to train your penetrating power, is to focus on an object as far away as possible while doing the form. Do the form as slowely snd correctly as possible...relaxed and focused on that point as far away as possible. (try to focus on somthing on the horizon if you can get to a place where you can see that far). When you finish you will feel enormous amounts of, what i can only describe as, energy in your body.

What do you mean by aiming in your opponent

It means in him not through him...

Ill give you examples...

Through~Punching all the way to the back of somehting...I dont prefure it...it kinda brings on a pushing action.

In~Go to the middle...so the impact spreads through out the organs in the body.

If hitting bony targets, such as head, face, sternum, shin (yes, shin), then short penetration. That is, aiming to hit about 2-3 inches past the surface. This ensures good retraction speed without over commitment.

When hitting soft targets, such as thighs, stomach/solarplex, and kidneys, deeper penetration is required. In this case, perhaps up to 6 inches of "aimed" penetration.

Using appropriate types of striking surfaces for the given target you're working on helps a good bit.

Good post by the way...

Well...that is interesting how you say bone and then organs(soft areas)...you are right but are you sure going in that deep?

I don't really think that 6" is so terribly deep for body shots: both the head and the body are more than 6" from front to back. Its pretty necessary on soft targets to transfer mass efficiently, since they absorb a great deal of that penetration depth. I think that a good shot ought to displace the other person, and its tough to do that on the body without some depth of penetration. You pretty much don't PENETRATE bony targets at all (unless you break thru them). With soft targets you can though.

what if you were aiming to punch through him, and you were punching along the vertical midline, and you went through all the soft tissue, is there not a spine there that you would not hit if you were trying to stop in the center somewhere. Just wondering, of course, I'm not sure if you can penetrate that far.

Just my 4 cents!!

my friends in nature of wing chun is penetration strike in central line .but that wingchunger can do with big speed in position not with punch and onthers. or we can lose spirit and strategy in wing chun . ( im like to ask how many people there traning tiger-snake-eagle in wing chun ? ;) just friendly tiger_1
