I just read "The Pavement Arena" byGeoff Thompson (www.geoffthompson.com)
Quite an interesting and surprising read. Geoff is THE reality guy over here, so it was surprising and refreshing to see that he feels that forms, set sparring and deep stances have a valuable place within the matrix of training, provided they're not at the expense of contact work and realistic application.
