Does any one know where I can find real swords. I am looking for real hand forged Chinese swords. I was looking at cold steel and I saw a few Paul Chen swords on the net, but I am looking for more than just those one. I am particularly looking for good battle ready broadswords and things like kwondao, pudoas, and even hooks etc. can someone point me into the right direction? Gene, I know you are also into swords. Does MAM have battle ready swords?

battle ready?

what battle would a sword be used in?

dude, you can get good quality and usable swords from mam.

but then, you could buy a machete at your local hardware store too. I hear they also have pitchforks and hoes! these will do a bit of damage. :)

stay away from wushu steel, it's for looks only and while it might cause some superficial wounding, it probably wouldn't kill anyone unless weilded by a master of the weapon.

anything of tempered steel or the rehammered rail steel is ok for hacking away with.

Anyway, it never was about the sword and it's more about the swordsman. A la, "poor is the carpenter who blames his tools".

Kung Lek,
I used that term, as I saw on the cold steel site that was what they used.

Im looking for properly made tapered steel swords. My company does very much the same as MAM, just in a much smaller way. A customer called me, and asked me to try get him these products for his private collection. He doesn’t want the training one’s. The people at cold steel were very help full, so were some others who sell paul chen stuff. That is basically what he is looking for.

While looking, I also want to find out if there are any places who sell Oriental battle Armour.

Please let me know, as I really need this urgently.

Eddie
Ps- if we were to go to battle, I would rather buy an AK47. Its much cheaper, and way more easier to get. It takes no skill to use.

Battle-ready swords has always been a funny term to me because it's more about marketing than any measure of the steel. What you really mean is forged and tempered steel.

MartialArtsMart (http://www.martialartsmart.com) carries forged and tempered steel from three separate forges: Hanwei (http://www.martialartsmart.net/hanweiforge.html) (under the direction of Paul Chen), Dragon Well (http://www.martialartsmart.net/dragonwellfo.html) (and I'll note here that it's authentic Dragon Well, not a knock-off) and Shaolin (http://www.martialartsmart.net/shaolinsword.html) (here I'll note that it's the Shao Wu forge that we currently deal with).

As for WLE, they carry swords from some of the same vendors. Wing Lam is my former Sifu - I helped him found his company and I've seen his weapon making operation. He uses bar stock removal to make his fittings so those are typically brass stock. His sword blades are remounted dragon well - his butterfly and kwan do are usually bar stock removal stainless.

Whenever we used the term 'forged' or 'combat steel', we're refering to that kind of weapon. You don't need me to PM you. Just read it for yourself.

I read through the site just after I posted that, and noticed myself. I was thinking on editing my post, but never got to it. Sorry.

I have a combat steel Broadsword made by Hanwei and it is good. I had the opportunity to buy an Hanwei Jian and turned it down, I would prefer Dragon Well for that.

MartialArtsMart just started carrying the Damascus Tai Chi sword (http://www.martialartsmart.net/451013.html) and it's gorgeous. A bit high end for my blood right now, but very tempting.

I did that & practice saber moves with it...I guess "combat ready" needs to be considered with relation to, what your adversary is carrying...All of the saber moves don't cross over (like I know all of them ...) many do.

Can you imagine? It would be like being slashed with the lid of a tin can...that would still be unpleasant, plus that wierd flippy sound they make :p

good to be back on KFO.
