recently food companies have started to include 'salt' in the nutrition information bit of the labels, and of the one's i've seen, the salt level is much higher than the sodium content per 100g or serving etc. funny because i always thought sodium was salt

sodium by itself is not salt. combine it with chlorine on a 1:1 ratio and you get sodium chloride, the chemical name for table salt.

however, that's not the only salt. as always, wikipedia explains further. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt)

do you mean sodium or salt? the government over here advises 6g a day for salt. i found a pretty good site which works out the salt content of food from the sodium amount:

http://www.salt.gov.uk/cgi-bin/saltcalc.pl

and

http://www.salt.gov.uk/sodium_and_salt.html

not too bad for a government advise site!

when you buy packaged foods, it's often hard to differentiate, so if you stick to there abouts, you'll be fine.

Lol! Eyebrows, your writing style is too obvious. Try to "sound" more like Ego 'cause at the moment it's pretty obvious when he's posting or you are.

lol @ your own sceptic nature and pining for her.

Sorry Toby, just a plain old war vet , and no oestrogen to be found

yes, it's sad, and your wishfulness is endearing. As for sounding like her as much as the rest of you do at times here, maybe I just had too much to do with her myself??

Wikipedia rocks.

The current recommendation is to consume less than 1,600 milligrams (mg) of sodium a day. This is about 2/3 teaspoon of table salt per day. It includes ALL salt and sodium consumed, including sodium in packaged food, used in cooking and at the table.

100mg is impossibly low, one slice of wheat bread has around 350mg sodium.

And by the way, here in the states we don't spell Estrogen with an "O".
