Hello,

I am new to this board, yet one thing that is annoying to me is the drama and bickering that seems to go on in almost every thread, even by senior members.
Do admins of this board admin content?
It is a shame when someone has a decent post with questions and/or ideas and it turns into a 6 page bickering and drama fest.

Can something be done and those involved in the drama and bickering please direct it away from innocent threads? Is this activity tolerated, it seems to be.

Where is the peace and care of our fellow kungfu and taichi brothers and sisters? There seems to be too much fighting around here. Maybe start a Drama section on the boards for those of us that would rather not read it when it is entirely off topic of the original post :)

Life is too short for all this bickering and name calling, there are more important things in life :D

Thanks,
A concerned and annoyed user.

Hi unixfudotnet,

When I first came here, it was pre-Lotus. The forum that I most visited was pretty awesome. It recovered a little bit in the last week or so after she was banned, but now it's going downhill again since she's posting using someone else's account. The same informed posters are still there (although a lot of them lurk now), but they're reluctant to post because of the antics of BL and people like me who let ourselves be trolled. There's still some good info that gets posted there though.

I used to visit the main forum for laughs when I first came here. In those days the main topic of conversation was Shaolin-do. Same thing, just different protagonists. There was probably a higher signal-to-noise ratio, though.

I visit the WC forum 'cause that's my art. Lots of noise there. I rarely post there.

Lastly, senior members are IMHO more likely to derail a thread. Seniority is earned by post count, nothing more. High post counts often mean a lot of irrelevant and off-topic posts. Just look at my post count for example :D.

yeah, we mod, but have a tendency not to delete threads that are merely bickering.

It is a shame when someone has a decent post with questions and/or ideas and it turns into a 6 page bickering and drama fest.

agreed. fortunately, most of the bickering posts that are active (at least on the main forum) right now are not really MA related anyway.

Can something be done and those involved in the drama and bickering please direct it away from innocent threads? Is this activity tolerated, it seems to be.

Generally, it is tolerated. If threads get way to out of hand, in terms of name calling, porn posting, disclosure of info of others, etc. we will lock or delete them.

1. there are more than kung fu guys here - me, for example.

2. peace and care of fellow brothers and sisters??? LOL... I don't think that exists. We have something in common, but that by no means implies that we like eachother.

Life is too short for all this bickering and name calling, there are more important things in life :D

agreed.

Thanks,

We don't see all of the rogue posts. If you have a complaint about something specific, you can click the "report this post to a moderator" link.

There was once a time when this forum was a Shangri-La, pure perfection in all it's aspects, so that to frequent it's beautiful forums was like having massage therapists trained in eastern medicine and belly dancing tend to your every need.

Over time, the massage therapists grew accustomed to a western diet, and really never had good dental care back home, so they started to resemble more and more some sort of sea cow in both breadth and breath.

Now that you understand what happened to the staff, I'll leave it to the others to explain the story of Friend of Man, Ralek, and the appearance and disappearance of Gingerfist.

Blooming Lotus is but a head on a pimple on an unwashed buttock. In time, another head will take it's place, for where we are, there is no soap.

I hope you begin to understand.

I should warn you also to beware the path of the moderator, for he is but a fingerless hand trying to apply hemorrhoid ointment.

This forum has grown and will no doubt continue to grow, sort of like a cancer. That's the problem when things get popular. It's like when your school takes off - lots of new students come in and lower the overall quality of the practice. You may pine for the days when you where just a small intimate school of dedicated practitioners, but that just the past now. You have to accept beginners, newbies, neophytes, etc. if CMA is to spread. Sure, there are more exclusive schools, ones that don't accept kids, or women, or gwailo, or people without the surname Chen, or whatever. There are more exclusive forums too. This is not an exclusive one. This is connected to a newsstand magazine and website, so it's big. And there's a high signal to noise ratio, but then, just look at your newsstand nowadays.

What is fascinating about this latest turn with the BL/Ego controversy is how vehemently some members are reacting to it. It's grown to this posse mentality, like a lynch mob. Now there's more people complaining with some sort of high moral indignation about the forum, as if this were a TV show. A forum is a very different media than TV. Sevenstar is right - we take a more laisse faire approach in moderation here, more so that TV censors.

No one makes anyone read the drivel. The only people who have to read it all is the moderators. When it's in my way on a thread, I skim over it, but I don't invest so much into it that it makes my upset. That would be unhealthy. If you're getting bogged down in it, don't read it. Go on to the other posts. You can block out the memebers you don't want to read.
