If you saw two guys fighting one guy on the street, and the poor outnumbered fellow was in a Wing Chun stance, what would you do?

...on the look on his face. If he has a smile on his face then I will let him be. =p

Be careful when trying to invervene in a situation where you don't know what has caused the confrontation.

ie. just because the guy is out numbered and is in a WC Stance, doesn't mean that he wasn't in the wrong. Perhaps, the 2 guys were chasing him for stealing or committing a crime.

I would say -attempt to get the background info before taking sides...

or

if you don't do that, keep walking and call the right authorities (sounds wimpy, but may be best choice to stay clear of it)-let them know there may be a fight...then they can sort out who is wrong.

dependes if the one guy is getting his as whipped
if he is bloody then i would tell the other 2 that i seen someone call the cops, so they better
leave if they don't want to get arrested , usually
that would be enough to get them off if not the guy really did some thing wrong and i will call the police and go about my way

Seriously though, just watch and learn.

"It's his fight not yours" -- WH

People are so eager to become "heroes" that they get involved in all kinds of dangerous situations they know nothing about. B&W situations where the defenceless widow and orphan are being attacked by an evil gang of thugs mostly exist only in our imagination. There is much more to any situation than meets the eye. By not knowing what situation you are getting into, you may further aggravate the situation and cause even greater injustice.

I was just curious if the fact that we were all Wing Chun practicioners would give us some sort of common ground =) If we all have instant kinship because of our love of Wing Chun.

"Brotherhood" in Wing Chun?

I reckon the internecine rivalry within Wing Chun can get as bad as any beef its practitioners have with Choy Li Fut (the traditional rivals) or, say, the hatred Spinning ****fist has for BJJ.

If I knew the guy and he was from my school, I would jump in.

unfortunately, wh is

================================================== =
The battle started with a grapple, he had real long hair so a grabbed a hand full, and chopped 'em in the Adams-apple, his partner in back of you tried to attack you, so I'ma twist 'em up like a pret-zel then I'ma tag you/I can't believe he wanna grapple again, I swung 'em around like I was dancing wit 'em, put his arms in back of his head and snapped 'em again, then I grabbed his limbs and put in the figure-"6 subtracted from 10"...

Why are Wing Chun and Choy La Fur rivals? I never heaqrd this before. Ant history/explanations please...

Scott

There are alot of specific reasons, but I believe the general overcast is that in China, Wing Chun and Choy Lay Fut compete for being the most popular martial arts. (or they did, until this contemp. wushu stuff.)

Either, watch :D or attempt to break it up somehow. Whichever I felt led to do.

the rivalry is from Hong Kong, where Wing Chun and Choy Li Fut guys would always duke it out.

There are a few reasons:

1. Wing Chun is a small circle system. Choy Li Fut is a large circle system. They cancel each other perfectly.

2. Wing Chun is soft(er) CLF is hard. Again, the opposite ends.

3. CLF laugh at our "girl hands" because our art was allegedly invented by a woman

4. CLF was, and still is a strong system with many practioners. Wing Chun was the new kid on the block in HK and so was a natural target for CLF since our system was the opposite of theirs.
Not to mention that since we were new, we had to prove ourselves by challenging them and other styles...

5. Wing Chun beat other styles more easily than CLF guys ;) and since both sides were so evenly matched, made for good fighting ;)
