to moderators :
I posted a Yip Man special student scam topic on 8/20 am. I saw it posted , and now I can't find it ?
Was it moved or deleted ?

Hello,

It was deleted as the topic and content would do little to promote the art or instill harmony. Quite the contrary the post would most likley stir up hostility.

While I can respect the fact that you feel you were taken advantage of and had a bad experience with a certain group I do not feel that this is the proper place to air anyones "dirty laundry". Since you mention Tom in the post I would assume you could contact him directly regarding any feelings or perceptions you might have.

If you wish to discuss the art of Wing Chun then feel free to do so. If you simply wish to post negative things about individuals or the system then expect your posts to be removed as I find them.

Peace,

Dave

BTW: I kind of find it amusing when "New Members" post yet do not have an e-mail address listed in the profile. I have never understood why people would make posts and yet provide no way to contact them directly unless they use more than one alias ;) Not saying that is the case here I just find it interesting that so many "registered" users have no e-mail address to contact them. Although, I suppose identities could be tracked via IP's :p

to moderator.
Thank you for your reply. I posted this topic not to have air any dirty laundry on Sifu A. Most of what I wrote about him as been stated before. Other post have stated the $3,000 fee required by a "famous w.c. grandmaster". Others have posted their feeling, pro and con, regarding the practice.
I did the post to warn others about the special student practices. This practice still exist in Sifu A's line as in all MA arts. By alerting the public to the frauds it only benefits the honest instructors.
I never bother to do w.c. after my special student experience.
But I learn not to trust anyone claiming to teach secrets for big $$$$.
How about giving my post one more lookover. ?

******Sihing73-How about if I make the modifications as above so that no names are mentioned? This way you can still say what you want and "warn" people about such practices. However, you do not name anyone so it is hard for people to take offense.
I am sorry to hear that you no longer do WC. Seems like a shame to allow one bad experience spoil the art for you. I can assure you there are plenty of good WC/WT people in NYC you could train with, some even from Sifu A's lineage ;).*****

BTW: Nice attempt to bring a name into things again but I would ask that you not make references to specific people in order to keep things from heating up :D

thank you for the reply. If you need to edit my post, please do so. If one person can learn from my experience then I feel my time writing was not wasted.
I learned from my experience. At one time in NYC there was a Budda Palm Kung fu school on Centre St. There was a Chinese "master" of Sun Da (spirit boxing). For $500.00 he would recite incantations so the spirits would reside in my body. I would be immune to knife attacks.

Too bad I had given $1,000 to be a special student to someone else. I could have been Superman.

"Moy Yat is no longer with us SHOW SOME RESPECT."
I read your last post. You said you were around 30 years ago, and you didn't learn anything yet.
You lost a lot more then $1.000.
Money may come and go,but what you learn last a lifetime.
It took you 30 years to realize you were scammed.
You don't know what you missed out on.
So just keep posting your garbage if that makes you feel better.

Hi Jaeson,

This is the type of reaction I was hoping to avoid. Please step back for a moment and try to relax. The post was edited so that the names were no longer listed. I can understand your emotion but I would ask that you step away and be the bigger man. You risk opening a whole can of worms which will do no one any good. You know what you did or did not get from your training. Let that be all you need. It does not matter what others did or did not get, does it??

Peace,

Dave

to moderators and others:
I see what you mean by stiring up hostilities.
Are we to ignore that fact that other sifu's found this practice to be aborhent ?
Go to Hawkins Cheung forum. See his opinion on Moy Yat.

Why not let special students write in, good or bad.? I know that there are plenty of special students that became Masters. And others that were cheated.
I am not limiting special students to any one grandmaster.
Respect for Moy Yat is not the issue. Do you want
students to pay $3,000 to some phony sifu?
I don't.

Hello ma skeptic,

I am concerned with this board not the rest of the world. If I was to try and keep up with everyone else and what they had to say I would have no time to practice or spend with my family. Suffice it to say that I have better things to do then check every site out there nor do I care what others opinions may be.

I am here on this board and I try to be as fair as possible without taking sides or spouting politics. What others do elsewhere is on them.

As to the issue of people being scammed; I feel that it is always worthwhile to warn people of the possibility of being scammed but no one needs to metnion names except in rare instances. Since you mention the fact that this occurs in several MA making metnion of a specific case or lienage is not needed, IMHO. Instead it does just as much good to mention the possibility of the scam and let the students judge for themselves whether taking the chance is worthwhile or not.

Peace,

Dave

Everyone please keep things civil, pretty pretty please
:)

It is, perhaps, the Ving Tsun's family's worst kept secret regarding my sibak's personal feelings for my sifu. However, the posts you refer to on the other forum, in actuality, don't really state his opinion of any general practice. However, if you wish, I am sure you can speak to him directly regarding the practice and more.

Regardless of any animosity, my sifu and sibak spent a bit of time together. There is a picture in IKF's tribute to my sifu of a very small new year's celebration at my sifu's school. If I am not mistaken, my sibak is sitting on the far left.

Additionally, I believe one of my sihings took up study with my sibak at my sifu's suggestion. My sihing lived in LA at the time and found the distance to NY difficult. If memory serves, that sihing's name is Dan Inosanto.

Both my sifu and my sibak put any personal issues they may have had aside and stood together at the opening of the Ving Tsun Museum.

For another view of the chip on your shoulder and the responses you are waiting for, see the reply post I made to you in the other area of these forums.

Dear moderator:
You deleted my post as to why I didn't give my name and address. I spent a lot of time composing it.
In any case thank you being civil toward a first time poster.
Even though no one wrote in about their negative special student experience, Tom Kagen did reply.
Everyone should read a Tom Kagen post. He states his case clearly and does not resort to ##$%^ and name calling. He clearly understands my anger and he does his best to defend the XXX lineage.
Therefore , out of respect for the moderator and Tom , I will take myself, and the chip on my shoulder, elsewhere.

Reading the way this whole thread was handled by all, esp. Sihing73, I must say congratulations. Given the context of the topic, that's one of the most civil threads I've seen for a while. Maybe there is hope for the Kung-Fu forums after all :)
