During hyperextensions, is the movement occuring at the hips, the back, or both the hips and back?

Hi,

This exercise involves the erector muscles of the back, the buttocks, and the hamstrings to a degree.

Thanks. But I was looking to know about whether the spine is supposed to be kept neutral, or if it is actively flexing and extending.

Ie. Is the erector spinae muscles supposed to be working isometrically or isotonically in this exercise.

Isometrically.

Yup. The back should remain in the same arched or neutral position throughout the movement. Rounding the back while lifting weights = bad mojo generally.
