Hello,

I recently recieved an e-mail advising me that my name has come up on another forum. Apparently I am thought of as a dictator with shallow understanding of Wing Chun. I am accused of taking the views of others and posting them as my own. Among other things there is even a reference to Whipping Hand loving me

http://www.vingtsun.com.hk/forum/treplies.asp?message=865&all=True

Now, I was a bit surprised to learn of all of this. I do not expect everyone to like me. However, I have always tried to be fair and tend to go along with the majority view. I also believe that anytime I have posted anything which was originally devised by someone else I have given credit to them.

So this lends me to ask this question, Am I truly thought of as a shallow dictator who uses the words of others to sound impressive? If so then I really don't belong here and I should retire and spend more time training or maybe give up Wing Chun altogether and take up knitting.

So, take this poll and let me know if I should pack it in or not. As I have consistently said, this is your forum not mine so if you think I should move on please let me know.

Thanks,

Dave

Stay and keep up the great work.

I actually look forward to your posts. They do not bash and attempt to guide the thread if not strengthen it.

Dave, idleness is the devil's playground, and he's been having a field day on that forum for a long time. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people, on the internet and elsewhere, who not only enjoy to stir up trouble, but savor it all the more when successfully aimed toward or between good people of good will. Just about everyone with a name has been talked about there or elsewhere at one time or another. You're in excellent company, and it's almost become a backhanded compliment to get a brush burn there.

FWIW, I recently summarized a list of various online forums with some folks on another list. For this, and only this forum I thought to mention this comment: "Well Moderated."

I know it isn't easy, and it's a largely thankless task. There is not a one of us who is without improvement opportunities, though wouldn't it be nice if people noticed what we do well once in awhile. But check it out ... even Whipping Hand said you're doing a good job. ;)

Regards and keep up the good work.

I really think that the evil soap opera drama on some of these forums is from the martial art Twilight Zone. Bizarre. Yet disturbingly entertaining. I need help. :(

Hello,

First of, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to reply. I appoligize for wasting bandwidth but I really did want to give everyone the chance to voice their opinion. FWIW, I really appreciate the fact that most seem to enjoy the way I have been doing things here. As I said I try to be fair and view this as not my but your forum. I only try to moderate if things are likely to head off into a area of insults etc. Although, sometimes, depending on the nature and severity, I will let some of these go too. I am only human and it is quite possible for me to make mistakes in judgement. However, everyone is always free to e-mail me directly. We may not have the best system, if such a thing exists, but I think what is in place right now is pretty good.

I do not have the time or energy, right now its 1:30 in the morning  , I am about to pick my wife up from work, lest you think I hover over the PC in the predawn hours :D , to respond to everyone who was kind enough to reply to this post.

I would like to thank everyone who voted and who replied. I do not have some sort of complex nor am I insecure. I simply wanted to give everyone the chance to let me know if I was extreme. As I said, the post I was advised of kind of took me by surprise  I wish the person felt confident enough to contact me directly, I am so hard to get in contact with . I am however quite glad that the majority do not share his or her view. Although one of you did vote that I was an idiot, LOL I kind of think that was my wife as she tends to remind me that I am the only dummy in our house, and I have a wooden man too, figure that one out

Seriously, thanks again. I will say goodnight or good morning as I am a little misty eyed right now.

We now return to our regularily scheduled Wing Chun discussions.

Peace,

Dave

Well, I suppose if "heavy" moderation means keeping the incessant political squabbling to a minimum in order to facilitate meaningful discussion and make all practitioners feel welcome, then this is a heavily moderated forum.

With that said, keep up the good work, Dave.
