Overhead squats. Quite possibly the best weightlifting exercise ever.

Check out the article: http://danjohn.org/overhead.html

I wouldn't call them the "best exercise ever". I like 'em though. They hit every muscle in your body...

You need be flexable in the shoulders, spine, and hips or you will not be able to do them. You need a strong core to stay stable in the bottom positions or else you will drop the weight. You need to be strong in the shoulders to hold the weight overhead and you need to be strong in the shoulder girdle to again stabilize the weight.

I think it's a great finisher. It doesn't hit anything hard enough. I do them after already doing max snatches, cleans, jerks, dl's, and front (or back) squats. I also love drop snatches (aka snatch balance) and the snatch press (ie doing shoudler presses in the bottom position of the overhead squat).

I'll take a peak at the article.

Your'e right. "the best ever" may be a little over the top. I like your descriptions of how many muscle groups it hits though.
Cheers
