More like the other way around, SunTzu. The guys that came onto th court might get fined, but players ran into the stands and started throwing haymakers. They'll get charged, sued, and dragged over the coals. I say good.

Was watching ESPN this morning before work.
They were showin some sluggin between 1 Indiana dude and a fan in a Pistons sweatshirt on the court.
The fan was kinda tubby, the Pacer landed 1 or 2 on his face, but then the fan fired back. From the angle & the editing it looked like the fan just shrugged off the punches and knocked the Pacer the fugg out.
Saw the beginning of that confrontation friday after working out, but didn't watch the whole thing.

If fans are causing bodily harm to atheletes then security's not doing it's job.

If atheletes are jumping into the stands to chase after 'fans' then the athelete is responsible for being unprofessional.

A professional takes the jeering in stride and lets security handle any violent fan outbursts.

You gotta question the intelligence of an athelete who wades into a crowd of thousands to "duke it out". Similar to musicians who dive into the crowd when they get hit with beer bottles- usually security ends up savin their candy azzz from getting stomped into oblivion by an angry mob.

Where the heck was arena security when all this was goin down?

but players ran into the stands and started throwing haymakers. They'll get charged, sued, and dragged over the coals. I say good. which is fine...... but i don't know a person alive(except for Gulootta(sp?)) that can take getting hit by someones beer from the crowd and shrug it off like it's nothing.....

If atheletes are jumping into the stands to chase after 'fans' then the athelete is responsible for being unprofessional. true... and i'm not saying that they are not responsible for THEIR actions....

You gotta question the intelligence of an athelete who wades into a crowd of thousands to "duke it out". Ron Artest is not the most stable person on the planet.... let alone the NBA....... that should show you the intelligence level of the person that chose to throw the drink at him........ "hmmm.... i think i'll throw my expensive a$$ beer at the craziest player in the NBA and expect nothing to happen to me.......".... genious....

and on a lighter note....

Geez, man. How many sporting events do you go to or played in? It comes with the territory. Not only do I see this at pro sports games that I go to, but I also saw it playing in my low-division rinky-dink high school and college. It's not uncommon at all. That's what security is for. They escort the fan out, who now just lost the money they paid for the ticket and may also be arrested and fined.

If it happens or if you get heckled, just use it as motivation to tune up the other team. So now he gets tossed out of the game, gets fined, and you tune up his team. How much better can it get? If you have such anger management issues, that you are playing a professional spectator sport and can't handle a plastic cup with some beer in it hitting you, then you need serious help and should not be allowed to participate in the game. Hell, I've even seen players stop, get refs over, point out the fan and have him escorted out while waving good-bye to him or blowing kisses. Not the most professional or mature thing, but you get the best of the fan AND the fan doesn't end up with a civil suit and criminal suit against you.

It's that simple. David Stern agrees. From all the polls I've seen, the majority of people agree. Most even say a year off was too light.

Basketball needs to be formally banned.

It's obviously to violent.

I've seen high school players show more restraint when they've had things thrown at them.

most people and Ron Artest are 2 different people.... not making excuses for the guy..... but he IS a bit unstable.... the guy has been in therapy for years...... what would you expect to happen?.................. and ANY 'fan" that's throwing anything at anyone should expect to get his a$$ kicked regardless of security..... he||... security should kick their a$$ when they get them outside.... anybody that would do anything like that is a tool and i wouldn't feel bad for them getting their a$$ kicked.....

This is an interesting side, hearing from maists.

Dude comes on the court, take him off, player goes into the stands, well, go get him out of there, don't just start throwing haymakers.

A lot of the arguments I've heard on the radio are saying Oh, it was only a cup.. what if it was a coin or something that took out his eye...

Regardless, he had no idea who actually through that beer or whatever.

Teach me Jermane O'Neal-Fu

1. Grow until you are 6'10". Eat lots of wheaties.

2. Work out hard for 6 years.

3. You only have to learn one technique. It's the super-deadly 'running from halfcourt haymaker' technique. Practice over and over again until you can knock a two foot hole in a 4x4.

Thank you for attending my seminar, that will be $200.00.

I think this was a good wake up call for fans. Heckling somebody mmmm... okay, but throwin crap at people is not ok. Think about it.................. the only reason fans do that kinda crap is because they have security and lawsuits to hide behind. Take a look at the vidoes, the people that were throwing things were either fat tubs or twirps. Had that been on the street, they would have never done that. I stand behind the players on this one. Fans shouldnt engage unless they're are ready for the consequences.
