Tim Cartmell:
For the last 30 years Tim has devoted his life to learning and teaching martial arts, including Taiji (Sun / Chen / Yang), Bagua (Sun / Gao), Xing Yi (Shanxi / Hebei), San Soo, Qi Gong, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This includes twelve years of study with some of the best teachers in China and Taiwan. During this time, Tim also fought in several full contact bouts in Asia and won!
Tim is known for his no-nonsense approach to analyzing the fighting techniques from the traditional arts and applying them to today’s ever changing times.
Tim Cartmell learned Sun Taiji from Sun Jian Yun, who learned from her father Sun Lu Tang, who created the style. Tim has also just recently offered the first English language translation of Sun Lu Tangs paramount work “A Study of Taijiquan,” which is highly recommended to anyone interested in this style, or Taiji in general. Tim has also authored the book “Effortless Combat Throws,” co-authored ‘Xing Yi Nei Gong,” and also translated the best book on Chin Na available from Zhao Da Yuan “Practical Chin Na.”
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to train with one of the most respected fighters and teachers in the Chinese Martial Community, in one of the rarest Taiji styles offered. For more info on Tim and his arts please visit: www.shenwu.com

Inside Cover:
Taiji Chuan is usually categorized into four main families: Sun / Chen / Yang / Wu, and while the majority of the moves are similar, their remains a distinct flavor within each style. Sun Taiji is one of the newest, and least well known of all. Created by the legendary boxer Sun Lu Tang (1861-1933) around the turn of the twentieth century, this style is considered to be one of the most applicable, and physically easy to learn of all.
Taiji has been proven to lower blood pressure, stimulate antibody production, calm the mind, lower stress levels, and increase general vitality and well being. Besides Taijis numerous health benefits it also happens to be one of the most effective fighting systems in practice today!
Many believe that because of its slow nature and relaxed practice Taiji is ineffective as a martial art. Quite the contrary, as Sun Lu Tang was one of the most feared and respected martial artists of China! Would it make sense for him to create a system that was solely for health and not have any combat involved? Not likely. Taiji is 80% locking and throwing, and Sun style is no exception.
Born near Bao Ding, in He Bei province, Sun fought many Shuai Chiao (throwing) experts, and was quite adept at the art of takedowns himself. According to Sun Jian Yun (Sun Lu Tangs daughter), Sun Lu Tang always referred to Sun Taiji as his “…crowning achievement.” Developed from Sun’s understanding of the Wu Taiji style, Sun style Taiji is a culmination of Taiji techniques, Bagua’s hand forms, and Xing Yi’s footwork and power generation. It is low impact meaning those with previous back, or knee injuries can do the complete form without pain or discomfort. The applications are done just as they are practiced in the set, which makes learning the art that much easier.
Whether you want to learn an alternative to the more common styles, better your understanding of Taiji in general, or want to learn an effective martial art that has innumerable positive side effects, you will not want to miss this exciting opportunity being offered only here in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico! This is the first time the art has been taught in it’s entirety with an open seminar format to the public in the Untied States!
In this series of seminars you will learn:
• All basic techniques, qi gong, and theories needed for Sun Taiji practice
• The complete long form
• Proper structure and alignment to make all movement truly effortless with maximum power generation
• Shuai / Na / Ti / Da applications to all movements (throwing / locking / kicking / striking)
• Push hands drills and exercises with emphasis on proper body mechanics and realistic combat applications

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please read this carefully. Due to the nature of this series of seminars it will require a serious commitment from you (the student), since you are getting a serious commitment from Tim Cartmell to teach this style. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, but we are asking everyone to commit to the complete series of seminars (dates ARE subject to change, but of course we will try to avoid changing any of the dates). The reason is simple; it will be too difficult trying to teach sections of the form to people who are on different parts because of them missing a seminar. This will be a fast paced series that will depend on the student practicing diligently on their own, and attending each seminar. Each successive seminar will include a review, and question & answer session on previous material, but we will be moving on to the next section briskly. Tim will be available for private lessons as well if needed.
When you register you are committing to all the dates, and understand that a portion of your deposit will not be refunded if you decide to cancel for any reason. Basically, we will structure it this way; in order to reserve your spot you will need to pre-pay the $125 (All fees are fully refundable if seminar is cancelled on our end for any reason), plus $50 (non-refundable) deposit on the next seminar. For instance when you register for the first seminar you will send in $175. The second seminar you will send $125, with the third being $75. This will sell out, so please do not hesitate to register ASAP!
