Is it worth all the sugar?

I'd say it's worth it in a pinch but I wouldn't depend on protein bars. The labels are not as accurate as you would think.

low carb style bars have minimal impact on blood sugar, but watch the ingredients. I'd rather have some sugar than some aspartame.

The ones with sucralose seem ok. beware Malitol and Xylitol unless you want to hang out in the bathroom.

Toby posted a recipe for homemade bars - low sugar if I remember correctly - not too long ago, dig back through the threads and you'll find it.



short answer is it's only worth it if you're not able to get lean protein from quality food sources. If you can eat enough fish, chicken, egg, whey..... skip the bars.
