from a physics viewpoint, the katana isn't the only edged thang that is capable of this.

One factor is the angle between the direction of the bullet and the surface of the katana. In this case, the bullet was being fired (it seemed) almost parallel to the side of the katana being struck, minimizing the force of the bullet affecting the blade (if the flat side of the sword were perpendicular to the angle of the bullet, the scenario may have ended differently).

There's also the resistance of folded steel, coupled with the flexibility of clay-forging. And all that stuff Shooted posted.

from a physics point of view it's also an issue of surface area. In this case a bullet has more surface area then the edge of a katana. Combine that with the fact that as shooter pointed out the lead in the bullet is that much softer then the steel of the blade of the sword....
the bullet on impact with the katana probably takes on the properties fo a liquid briefly.
