I am used to hold 20 pounds in each of my hands during 1 minute,(first one than another). Is this kind of training bad for your spine or something?

I think you're going to have to elaborate on that a little before you get an answer.

Probably means shadowboxing.

Lighter dumbell weight and heavier medicine ball practise will probably give you much better (and safer) results.

3 pound dumbells should probably be your average shadowboxing weight.

5 pound dumbells should probably be your typical heavy shadowboxing weight.

10 pound dumbells should be reserved for a single round every now and then.

Certain punches can be done with a heavier weight for a rep or 2; maybe has high as 10 or 20 punches.

For example, a while back we worked on being able to throw tight hooks and tight uppers with a 40 pound dumbell.

Even managing a rep or 2 was very difficult with the hooks at this weight.

These weren't straight punches, so didn't have the same effect on the joint; not only that but they weren't done repeatedly over a long period of time.

They were nice because they showed you how to get the absolute most body out of what you were throwing (eventhough with the hooks, I'll admit that the weight wasn't pulling along the right axis to coincide with the power of the punch).
