I am very curious about your school. Are you affiliated to Jack Wong or Galen Fok in Vancouver, B.C., Canada?

Warm regards

I couldnt tell you to be honest. Im a newbee in this system. I didnt realize there where so many mantis styles. Do they all relate somewhere. Can you go from different schools without having to start over. I m hoping to build upon things while i travel in the military . We move every 2-3 yrs. Semper FI Rad

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the Bio of Sifu Dang (your teacher?) It would seem that he's one of GM Chiu's student in Vietnam. So I don't think he would be affiliated with Jack wong or Galen Fok then. If you are interested in finding out more on CCK TCPM please feel free to check the following sites:

PS Please send my regards to your teacher who would be a senior to me in the CCK TCPM family. Thank you, my friend. :)

That depends on what you are looking for exactly. If you are looking for mantis material in general, there are plenty of them. Though I would stay away from most of the VCD coming out from Mainland China. But if you have money to burn, well by all means get them as well.

If you are thinking of material concerning CCK TCPM, then there is a Wooden Dummy book featuring GM Chiu (CE 1900 - 1991). Jack Wong also made a VCD that's accompanying the book which is written only in Chinese (but lots of pictures). There are also a few books (Bengbu, Lanjie, Killing Fan, etc...) by Alexander Tse but I am not sure the availbility of those. So...

CCK TCPM can be directly traced back to Classical Tanglang of Liang Xuexaing (CE 1810 - ? ). It is considered as a branch of Taiji Tanglang that is originated in Laiyang County, Shandong, China. GM Chiu was native of Shandong, sojourned in Guangdong, Macao, and Vietnam; eventually he settled down in Hong Kong. Because of his remarkable martial arts experiences and exceptional Kung Fu career, there are a few unique features in his style. I am sure that your teacher will guide you all in good time. If there is anything regarding the style and training that I could be of service, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hope this helps.

Talked with some sutdents last night. The mantis style is called Tai chi Mantis. It confsed me a little because i thought Tai chi was its own art form. I would be willing to purchase some reference matl on this style. Point me in the right direction. I saw the post about the wooden dummy video. Well i dont own one so i dont think i would be buying the dvd. Regards TJ

rad, it sounds like you are in with a good teacher if he is related to mantis108.

seeking information abroad is good and keeps your eyes open but you might want to settle in at the school and train for a bit till you get the basics the teacher is offering. most good teachers respond well to students who train hard.

good luck.
