I've known this book has existed for a while, and while I was at Half Price Books today I found a copy. I saw it said something about street fighting on the side, and I glanced and realized while looking on the side what it was. I got it for $7.98+tax, and sure enough I opened the cover flap and it had Gene's name printed on the front page. Check it out.

BTW Gene, do you own a copy of it still? I have no idea what I am going to do with it. I simply bought it cause I knew it was out of print (and for good reason) and dunno what to do with it now.

Some trekkie might pay big bucks for that. Well, maybe not.

That book was by a classmate of mine, Chet Braun. The funny thing was that he wasn't even that into Star Trek; I doubt he could've named the original crew when he wrote it. I'm not even sure why he wrote it. I designed the cover. That was back in my graphic design days. Although he supplied all the images, including a disc of stock patterns with which I did the swirly cover. It took me about half an hour - and I never took a class in graphic design (I barely read the photoshop manuel). I was paid handsomely for the job, which made up for all the graphic arts jobs I did when I wasn't paid. Anyways, he printed up a lot of those and then was immediately shut down by Paramount, and for good reason. To this day, he insists he was in the legal right, to which I reply, then why isn't the book legal to sell? So it's a bit of a collector's item, and yes, I do have a copy in my martial arts library.

It gets better - check this out! (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=35069)

Funny thing, that book is the reason i started martial arts :) Was just a Star Trek nerd that never trained anything, and was very interested in Klingons so i bought this book. Read the book, got interested in it, and also got a big catalog with lots of martial arts stuff in it. Consequently started training Kung Fu, then kickboxing, then tae kwon do, and now the past 2.5 years i've been training MMA/BJJ and think i finally found my spot in MA :)

So here i am 6 years, 4 arts and 2 MMA fights later :) And it can all be tracked back to that book to begin with. Of course i may have started anyway :) But who knows.

Indeed, how cool would it be if i ever became a big name fighter and i could answer in interviews when asked "How did you get started?"

"KLINGONS!"

That's a great story, qeySuS. I'm sure that I can speak for everyone involved in that book project and say that we are very gratified to hear it inspired you so. That was the underlying intention of the author (beleive it or not) so I'm happy to hear that he actually succeeded.

Now if only we can recruit all those Star Wars geeks too...

Those books are not autentic Klingon books! They can't trace their lineage back beyond the dog-faced Klingon. They're fakes, plain and simple.

If those books really exist, I wonder why Lucas doesn't shut the thing down?

Well, Ashida Kim is really into the Church of the Jedi. He's got a link to their message board from his website, too. I wouldn't be suprised if he self-published the books like he does those crazy ninja manuals.

PHILBERT

Self published or not, he is making a profit off of Lucas, and I know from (personal) experience that Georgy don't play that game.

Please someone just email that link to whatever EMail addy is most likely to attract Lucas' attention. I'd love to see Ashida Kim get his ass sued! :D

That was the most blatant example of copyright and trademark infringement I have ever seen.

OH I already did. After going through LucasFilm's offical website I came across the e-mail address for webmaster@starwars.com

I also found on THX website a copy infringement form, however I didn't submit it because I don't think THX would care as much as the offical Star Wars website.

D'ishwa Yabakah!

I once had to learn Klingon phrases when bouncing at a club with a big international cliental - the idea was no one would know what we were saying. They were right, no one did - including the bouncers.

Also - there used to be a guy who road the 'El' train in Chicago wearing a Star Fleet uniform complete with 'Star Fleet ID' tag. Okay, if he was really from the future, wouldn't there be a different way to ID people than a laminate tag?

I knew that was a bad idea. We shouldn't have released those Klingon secrets. They're too deadly for the street - for earth streets at least...

I did design the cover. The funny thing was the my shidi wasn't really a trekkie per se. He was a Hung Gar man, and quite talented at Iron Body and Iron Palm. Maybe all that Iron qigong got up in his head and made him go Klingon. I never quite figured that out.

He wound up teaching workshops on the betleH for a while. It was pretty funny. He was pretty buff and hardcore and he'd sit these overweight trekkies in horse stance until they started to sweat cheetohs and cry "Beam me up! For God's Sake, Scotty, BEAM ME UP!!"

Man boldly robs store with Star Trek sword
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado police say a man with too much "Star Trek" on his mind used a sword modelled after the weapon carried by Klingon warriors to demand money from two convenience stores.

Investigators say the man took an unknown amount of cash from a 7-Eleven store Wednesday but left empty-handed when he tried to rob another store about 25 minutes later.

Police Lt. David Whitlock says no one was injured.

The StarTrek.com website says the double-pointed sword used by the Klingons on "Star Trek" is crescent-shaped and about a metre long.

Police did not specify what material it was made of.

No one has been charged in the incident.

I was just listening to a radio show this morning and a caller called in that went to a local highschool in 2004 and one of the student body president candidates gave his entire speach, about 10min long, in klingon. I just thought that was funny.

‘Star Trek’ Klingon Warnog beer invites fans to drink like warriors (http://herocomplex.latimes.com/tv/star-trek-klingon-warnog-beer-invites-fans-to-drink-like-warriors/)

Klingon Warnog in a can. (CBS Consumer Products)

By most accounts, we’re living in a golden age of television, but we’re also apparently living in a golden age of TV-based beer. There are currently beers inspired by “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead” on the market.

And now there’s a beer from the “Star Trek” universe.

CBS Consumer Products and the Federation of Beer announced the first official “Star Trek” beer in Las Vegas on Monday, and it’s the kind of drink designed to make fans snarl and growl as only a Klingon could.

Klingon Warnog will be brewed by the Evansville, Ind.-based Tin Man Brewing Co. According to the announcement, the dunkelweizen style beer has an aroma that is “predominantly mild banana and clove” that is “supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.”

The beer’s flavor “draws heavily from the blending of the rye malt and traditional clove character” and includes wheat and caramel malts. Making the 5.5% ABV Roggen Dunkel something strong enough for a surly Klingon to quaff. Or so they say. Klingons would probably prefer something around 10% ABV with a splash of battery acid.

The Klingon Warnog will soon join other TV-based beers already on the market, including the “Game of Thrones” line of beers from Brewery Ommegang, which includes Iron Throne blonde ale, Take the Black Stout and the latest, Fire and Blood red ale, which will be released Monday.

The Philadelphia-based Dock Street Brewing Co. will be releasing the “Walking Dead”-inspired Dock Street Walker on Sunday. The red-hued American pale stout uses an extra special ingredient to appeal to zombie fans: smoked goat brains.

With all the TV-based beer available, it’s worth a reminder that fans should only binge on the shows. The beers are best enjoyed one at a time.
