I'm trying to figure out what precisely is wrong with my finger.

It is my left pinky (I am left handed). There is slight loss of mobility in the lower joint and near complete but not entirely complete loss of mobility in the top joint (furthest from the palm) there is swelling that does not reduce with icing and considerable blood buildup above the top joint of my finger on the surface facing the palm. There is some bruising under the fingernail and below the top joint and the lower joint of the finger. There is some pain which is much worse when I touch the inner surface of the finger to anything. Advil does nothing to dull the pain. So - what did I do to it?

Do you remember banging it or twisting it any time recently?

Regardless, go to the doctor.

Yes, please go to a doctor. You could develop an infection and that's just bad. Here's a picture of a nasty infected finger just to get you motivated. FINGER (http://www.worldortho.com/database/neuropathic/50_large.jpg)

s'ok Enpee. :)

When I was a kid I learned that hotdogs were made from "machine scrapings". Haven't eaten one since.

Doctor said I definately broke the tip of my pinky finger. It's above the top joint so there is nothing they can do as far as casting or splinting so they gave me some T3's and sent me on my way. BTW: I know exactly HOW I did it, I just didn't know exactly WHAT I had done at first.
