I've seen these advertised online, but can't seem to find anyone who owns a pair or has used them.

Neat idea, but they're functionality looks rather questionable.

Anyone here know?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, google search (http://www.google.com) telescopic nunchaku (http://www.google.com/search?q=telescopic+nunchaku&sourceid=opera&num=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) or chrome nunchaku (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=chrome+nunchaku&btnG=Search). The simple fact that it's so popularly offered in chrome makes me wonder if they're more for display than practical use...

I used to work at a martial arts supply store. The telescoping nunchuks are pretty bad (bad meaning bad not bad meaning good). They are hollow aluminum. when striking a hard surface the chuks will likely break apart or bend. In addition the swivel is of poor quality. If not for costume or collection purposes, they are poor for practice and demonstration use.

Ah, thought so. Thank you very much.

I have a retractable baton and even that gets bent after a couple drops during practice. I imagine these are even weaker.

...just in case we're attacked by ninjas. Seriously. I've kept weapons by my desk for my last three jobs, but you got to keep in mind what field I'm in.

I keep this model (http://www.martialartsmart.net/19-04.html) on my desk mostly because it's perfect for holding books open when I'm doing research. Nunchuks are illegal here in CA - I can't even buy one here if I wanted to. But to your question, for a $20 piece, it's not bad. I don't think it would stand up to being slammed against the cement, but then a lot of weapons won't pass this test. It might even shatter if struck by a strong baton. But as a sneak attack weapon **not that I'm advocating such behavior at all** you coud get a good shot across someone's face pretty quickly and they'd go down. They extend fast and give you an unexpected reach. I wouldn't use them for demos because their ninja-stealth black. It wouldn't be something I'd just if I had to fight off Han's army because I doubt it would withstand that many hits. But as a surprise sucker-punch weapon, it's priceless. And it makes a **** fine book holder. ;)

I've found a high range of quality with any retractable, not just across brands, but also within a given product. Given the nature of a telescope, they can be well fitted or not, and that is very subject to wear & tear. Some are cleary very poorly made. But for example, my Keibo (http://www.martialartsmart.net/19-02.html) is still in fine working condition after years of abuse (in all honesty, I don't know where I got that one - I've had it for decades). I do like the retractables we carry here, but for the most part, they are for collection curios. All 'sneak attack' weapons are.

Yeah, well that's cool. This is exactly what I was looking for. People who've used them, have an opinion, and can properly form a sentence. ;)

Great! Keep 'em coming. I am somewhat of a collector, so they may be a buy for me anyhow. Just not at the top of my list.

(I keep my Keibo in my desk too and hang a pair of nunchaku on the wall in my office under a tag that says 'Collections Tool'.... I deal with other people's money.) ;p

any time you hit anything with them they tend to bend or warp.

too much fuss.
