How would you sum up new year and lion dance?

If you had to explain to someone in just a couple of paragraphs what Chinese New Year meant, what the Rooster represents and what traditional southern Lion Dance represents, what would be the key things that you would include?

Well, one year I wore a hole in the side of my thumb playing the cymbals for the lion. I didn't go away for weeks and I still have a scar.

I think that about sums up Chinese New Year..

We do about 50 lion dances/day on Chinese New Year and New Year's Eve.
