Hello all, I have just recently become interested in Wing Chun. I have been looking up schools in my area for the last week or so and have narrowed it down to the only two I would be able to attend. I know you guys have experiece (unlike me) on wing chun and would appreciate your input on which would be the best to attend. Thanks :)

Hi Ozihn,

The first link you posted doesn't seem to lead to a school that teaches Wing Chun! I only saw Karate, Shaolin and "Tai-Wei Ku-Su Kung-Fu" there.

So I guess if they are the only two schools that you can possibly attend, if you want to learn WC/WT you don't have the luxury of choice.

Cheers,

Max

If WingTsun has taught you anything, it should have taught you not to size someone up by his looks or physical appearances. My brother trains under Sifu Adams and says he is very capable. I would try him out If I were you.

Train Harder!!!!!

For those of you who don't read the Kung-Fu Forum. :)

I sent an e-mail to this guy asking about his linage, this was his response.

Hi Tyler,

Thanks for your interest in our classes.

Here's my formal lineage:

Ng Mui ==> Yim Wing Tsun ==> Leung Bok Chau ==> Leung Lan Kwai ==> Wong Wah Bo ==> Leung Yee Tei ==> Leung Jan ==> Chan Wah Shun and Leung Bik ==> Yip Man ==> Leung Ting ==> Mike Adams

I am a direct student of Great Grandmaster Dr. Leung Ting of Hong Kong, the last losed-door disciple of the late Grandmaster Yip Man (Bruce Lee's instructor).

I've been doing WingTsun since Si-Fu Leung Ting first came to the USA in 1980. I'm the most senior WingTsun instructor west of the Mississipi River, and one of the most senior in North America. I also sit on the Board of Directors of the International WingTsun Association, North American Section

<http://www.leungtingwingtsun.net/contact.html>

which is the American branch of GGM Leung Ting's IWTA, the world's largest Chinese martial arts organization, with branches in 64 countries.

We bring Si-Fu Leung Ting in several times a year from Hong Kong to teach the senior students and istructors as well, so there are some really excellent training opportunities.

I started teaching in Illinois in 1988, and we now have classes in the Chicago suburbs (Lisle and Wheeling) and Central Illinois (Bloomington-Normal and Pontiac). Since
I'm originally from Illinois, and so is my wife, we're pretty much settled down here for the rest of our lives, which means the classes are stable and ongoing. The class sizes tend to be small (5-15 people), with lots of personal
attention.

If you let me know which class is nearest to you, I'll be happy to send directions and you can come by and watch or try a class and see what you think!

You're welcome,

Sifu Mike

Does he sound like he knows his stuff?

Would you really have wanted to learn Wing Chun from this guy?

Appearance isn't the best indicator of skill.

1. This part of that lineage is debatable: "==> Yip Man ==> Leung Ting". Also this: "Leung Ting of Hong Kong, the last closed-door disciple of the late Grandmaster Yip Man". I won't go into it here but you can find out more on other websites is you want. I don't intend to start a storm, but it's better to be forewarned about certain things sometimes. I'm not saying that that in itself denigrates the effectiveness of Wing Tsun though.

2. "...which is the American branch of GGM Leung Ting's IWTA, the world's largest Chinese martial arts organization, with branches in 64 countries."

Again, without specifically denigrating Wing Tsun, but speaking in general terms, a large network of martial arts schools is testimony to effective marketing and advertising strategy, and does not necessarily mean that it is the most effective style or lineage of a particular martial art. Often quite the opposite in fact - it can lead to watering down of the original art.
