Apparently it's the active ingredient in Biotest's Spike (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do;jsessionid=3763D293A58F8FFC66234E0A40 E8EA76.titan?id=559844), altho also apparently if you ask if that is the case on their message board your question gets deleted.

They are Cliff's notes. Well, article abstracts anyway. Fairly scientamatific words in there, though. Summary: it's not bad for you. Article A tests how effective it is as an antidepressant. Answer - not very. Article B tests how effective it is at treating asthenia (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=asthenia). Answer - not given. The Spike stuff looks kind of scary anyway. Dunno that I'd want to be taking that on a regular basis.

Hmmm... plugged it into a Google and found a lot of pages in French. I used to be able to speak and read it well, so I could understand a little of them. What they said was basically on par with what I got from skimming that Biotest page. It seems like a stimulant that is a b-vitamin derivative. That is most likely why Biotest says it can't be tested for by the NCAA. It seems French endurance athletes have been using it for quite some time now.

Personally, I try to stay away from stimulants. I don't even drink coffee. This one seems like it could make somebody mentally dependent on it even if it isn't physically addictive.

(my translation/transcription of some info)

"...it is a derivate of vitamin b1, that acts in the brain incrising the release of dopamine..."
"reduces the mental and physical tireness, being recomented for treatment of fadigue, learning dificulties, low libido (for both male and female), stress..."

and so on

I got a free sample of Spike in the mail today that I signed up for a month ago and forgot about. A little bottle of 8 pills came in a big box (nice packaging).

I'm a bit scared to take it cuz I'm a puss.
