A friend of mine wants to run a pipe from floor to ceiling through his mook jong so it can swivel = no real resistance but maybe speed training. I keep trying my hardest to discourage him as that is not what was traditionally intended for the use of such apparati, but he is adamant about doing it.

Are there any benefits to this?

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Is there anything similar on the market?

Why are my friends so weird?

He actually studies with a "tai chi guy" who calls himself "Sensei", so the last question isn't such a stretch.

I once saw a video of a "live" dummy that would slide across the cross braces of the stand while the sutdent was practicing on it. It was pretty neat. No idea if it's usefull though.

Yeah, I guess you could do that and maybe my friend's swivel idea if you absolutely had to train on your own, but instead, why not just go to class or get a partner to train with? These designs IMO are for training with something heavy that moves. Might as well get a person, no?
