Greetings,

Bobby Ming (Tan Tao Liang) did something similar nearly 25 years ago. Holy crap! Did I say 25 years?

That looked more like Capoeria than Tae Kwon Do.

I'd have to go with GDA on this one. While capoeirista spin around a lot and kick at the same time, sometimes, but otherwise that looked a lot more like TKD.

Greetings,

I have to be careful that my words reflect was I was thinking. I meant to say capoeira inspired. There was a time when capoeristas were the only ones doing the continuous spinning kicks directed at one point. This isn't to say that the performer has no ability. If I tried it, you guys might see, in addition to the kicks, a thick spiral of vomit radiating from the core of my being.

what do you mean "continuous spinning kicks directed at one point"?

In my experience a couple fo kicks may be delivered quickly at one single target or location, but generally a capoeirista tries to move around to keep his opponent off balance.

Hello red5angel,

In fighting you are right. That type of continuous spinning was done in training. Practitoners would trance out to the music and it was not uncommon to see capoeristas do 100 spinning kicks, without the kicking foot touching the floor, while training.

This was done a long time ago when capoerista was being introduced into this country. During the '70's.

They don't do this anymore?

not really, not that I've seen. after our class for instance a few of us might work on one kick, throwing it about 100 times but during class we'll throw a couple of kicks but more often then not those kicks are mixed in with other techniques. The idea in capoeira is to keep moving, mostly in a circle but going either way, around your opponent. I suppose it's a way of training a kick, like I said, we do it out of class, when we're feeling good or feel like we need to work on something.

red5angel,

I once saw a guy with such control with his spinning kicks that he could slow down and speed up at will. Still, without his kicking foot on the floor nor abbreviating the continuity.

Good stuff,

I can believe it. Anyone who practices enough can do something like that. In Capoeira it's encouraged since one good way to decieve your opponent is to throw off his, or your timing.
