Actually, it was alot of fun. She invited me out, we all went to a bar and had a blast.

He said he's going to work with me on my ground game if I like. I'm hopeing to hook up with him next Saturday while she is at work. :D

Meanwhile, I think she will calm down and not be too mad at us for tearing up her Living room!!

I actually didn't do too bad at keeping him from taking me down. But after enough tries, he got me, and I was pretty much sunk.

Got tied up in knots and tapped out pretty quick after that.

I'm not sure that's such a healthy thing ... It sounds too healthy to be healthy.
I'm sure this is beyond me.

Royal Dragon
03-27-2005, 01:51 PM
What's not healthy? isn't it pretty much a foregone conclusion EVERY Kung Fu guy should have some supplemental ground training?

I kept him form taking me down for quite a while by droppin back into a deep bow stance, but leaning very forward with my weight on his upper body as he shot in.

I was lifting his right shoulder, and pressing on his left and sort of "Rolled him". It's a technique I first saw in a Yang Jwing Ming book on Fast wrestling, and then again in a Shui Chiao seminar I helped host a few years ago.

BTW, Thanks MS II for showing that one!

Starchaser107
03-27-2005, 02:04 PM
lol,
that part was just fine and dandy
I was referring to touching hands with your ex's current in a very healthy and friendly way.
man that's just so nice it's unhealthy :D . so ego's never came into play once?

Royal Dragon
03-27-2005, 02:13 PM
Nope!
I actually left her. She still wants the freindship, so (being how I am) I said OK.

He knows we were seeing eachother, but not that it was more.

This is really how it should have gone with Debbie, but she is too much of an emotional twit for that.

Anyway, one of the thigs I found successful for a time, was to use a kneeling stance instead of the bow stance. It's a posture from my one of my Tai Tzu sets, only modified with the forward leaning aspect of the one from the Shui Chiao seminar. By shooting back, but with my rear leg more off to my rigth side rather than directly behind me, I found I had more tourque for cranking him over.

The kneeling seemed to give me the ability to lay my weight on him better too.

I figured that out right before she got out of the shower, and quickly shut us down and made us put the furniture back inplace!

Royal Dragon
03-27-2005, 06:10 PM
Why would I be uncomfortable?

Sometimes a romance does not work out, but that's no reason to end a perfectly good frendship. You have to expect them to move on and find another. It's not a big deal.

Besides, I now have a NON BJJ ground guy to practice with!

Actually, it's not Debbie's new guy, it's the one after her.

Now Debbie on the other hand, her and I were doing pretty well for a time, then it all blew up again. I've decided continueing that freindship is pointless. Not because of her boyfreind and all, but because she is a 38 yearold inmature, COMPLETE, emotional twit. The same reasons thet ended the relationship, are working thier magic on the freindship.

Her new guy is not a fighter, he's a manipulative *****. Personaly, I'd love to see a fight between him, and the most reacent's new guy. I think it would be funny to pit my ex's new boyfreinds against eachother. Debbie's guy would get killed though, he's just a civillian and quite wussy.

Have you ever considered that on a kung fu forum where admittedly things can get OT from time to time, Rd's relationship threads go for fukking ever? Can Gene juct create a section for whining about peoples fukked up relationships? I'm convinced there has to be a forum out there somewhere for it. what's really bizarre is atleast on the forums on this site I cruise, apart from the occasional post in the health an dexercise forum, these are the only threads I see RD participate on!!!!!

RD,

Opening day for baseball is tomorrow. If the white sox have a home game tomorrow night or saturday afternoon, I would suggest going down to the south side with a cubs jersey on. This could result in one of three things:

1. You get a lot of experience escaping people who really want to take you down/out, and great experience with multiple attackers.

2. You show up black, blue, and bloodied, spray a lil whipped cream so it looks like you are foaming at the mouth, and get a crazy look in the eye.

3. You will not have to meet with him. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the tribune and sun times.

Or you could just say "if you take me down, and I cannot get backup, I will give you a snowball".

Royal Dragon
03-31-2005, 08:58 AM
That's because for the most part, I really don't practice much anymore. Summer is comming, and I will be doing Qi Gong and such out in the local forest preserve and all, and some forms. But since my back injury, I really don't work my Kung Fu like I used to. I basically just play with the forms now and then.

I'm hopeing this Greco Roman guy will re ignite my passion for martial arts. I just seem to have lost the desire to really work at it in the last few years.

I supose motivation and how to keep it up would be another good side topic as well.

Royal Dragon

Or you could just say "if you take me down, and I cannot get backup, I will give you a snowball". No no no. RD gets the snowball. You see, he was kissing his old girl's HOO HOO after her boyfriend had already laid some pipe, so to speak. That's why I called him Snowball. I guess in retrospect I should have called him Felcher.

Now that he has a wrestler man-handling him, I think "Two in the Stink" is a good nickname. Or maybe Tailpipe.

But RD was asking for our help. If he gets taken down, and cannot get up, the wrestler gets the snowball. That will be the last time RD would ever get taken down by this guy see? Unless the wrestler goes both ways, in which case RD is screwed.

Debbie, well her and I were messed up from day one, but I really love her, and it is killing me to end the freindship now, but she is just too much of an emotional twitt to manage a freindship with a member of the opposite sex I think, let alone an ex.

As for the sprawl, I can already do that with some degree of accracy. I want NON sprawl ideas to play with simply because just feel a need to do things differently than everyone else.

Of course, if I must sprawl, I must. It's better than losing. I have no problems taking someone else's techniques, and kicking thier ass's with it! ;)

Besides, I have a Tai tzu set that opens with a move that I believe represents the sprawl, so it's OK for Chinese Kung Fu players to do that. I just want to be different, that's all.

Ok,

Debbie, is the emtional TWITT that left me for some guy named Rich (She has been married twice before, both to guys named Rich). Rich is a wuss with soft hands, but is bigger than me (Can't see any other reason, he's a total knob).

The one AFTER Debbie is just too much like me, I got weirded out by that and I left her. She's now dateing a Greco-Roman wrestler who is going to school me in my ground game. He's smaller than I am, but can kick my ass if I let him take me down.

[EDIT}
Come to think of it, between her first and second Husbands, she fell Deeply "In Love"with another guy named John, and left him for a guy named Rich, who then became her second husband. Left him, fell "In Love" with me (Gian = John, only in Italian), and left me for a guy named Rich!!

I have two forms that contain a sprawl technique. At least, I have no qualms saying it's a sprawl technique.

You don't always have to do a full sprawl. On a single-leg attempt, you can step back with your lead leg and push down on the guy's head, or try to underhook him and control him that way.

So far as alternatives go: A knee to the groin for a street fight, sure, but you're just playing around, yeah? Then there's that whole "grab him by the skull and turn it like a steering wheel" deal which I always forget the proper name of. Heck, I probably should do that anyway.

This is a case where I want to learn from this guy, but be a competitive little snot at the same time!

My sweeps suck, ever since my back went out, I just don't have that "Umph" to them anymore. I might be able to adapt some tripps and such though. I'd have to figure out how to get the position on him though.

He's a tricky ******* though, just when I think I've got it figured out, he changes on me.Interesting. I never really followed what happened with your back, although I was vaguely aware something had happened. If there's weakness to the lower body, it sounds like a lower back problem.
Working on rooting may help, especially if its done slowly and carefully as if rebuilding from nothing. I had an ailment to my nerves some time ago that never healed, basically the left side, arm & leg, was short-circuited and 'throwing' themselves about independently [hemibalismus]. I went to kung fu to help heal it, not so much to fight.
Long stories short, it took slow & strict retraining of the muscles, conscious taming of the twitch reflex over the course of 2 years. It isn't over with by any means. Anyhow, I understand what you mean by 'no umph', if you understand me.

What is San Antonio like? I'm going to be traveling to Florida shortly in search of work [New York is quite dead, IMO] and might look to Texas as well.

My back is fairly healed now, but it will never be 100%

I can *Do* everything again, but it's not like I can do it with kill power anymore.

My back therapy consists of Wu Bu Chuan with a couple of added postures from my 18 Louhan hands, and Tongzi Gong. It is good for maintinance, and I added the better back therapy exercises to my favorite conditioning routine.

My biggest problem has been motivation. It could just be because of winter, I tend to slack off then, but realy jamb in summer. The warm weather lights me up. I really should spend summers doing lots of forms, Qi Gong and conditioning, and during the wihter when I am suffering form lack of motivation I should be working with other people just to get me going.

Hard to say. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Highway system, although somewhat tricky at first (what cities' isn't?), is very efficient. If you ever hear someone from SA complain about traffic smack 'em upside the head. They have no idea.

It's very hot and humid from late-april/early-may thru about mid-october. There are 2 seasons here. Summer, and Sprall (Spring/fall combo). But the winter months average between 50-70 degrees.

Work-wise....we'll that depends on what you do for a living. Computer security related stuff is very big here. It's predominately a military city (mainly Air Force). We had 5 or 6 bases here (a couple have closed down), with Lackland AFB being where the USAF conducts basic training. So needless to say Government contract work is a very large chunk of employment down here.

Geography wise it is about an hour south of Austin, 2.5 hours west of Houston, 4-5 hours south of Dallas, 2.5 hours north of the gulf of mexico (Corpus Christi), 2.5 hours north of Nuevo Larado, Mexico.

Of course travel times may vary by vehicle type, weather conditions, and rednecks.

Martial arts sceen: Plenty of TKD, Korean MA, and Kenpo. As far as CMA there are a couple wing-chun schools. Water Dragon has just moved down here and he and Kirk Woller are supposed to be collaborating on a Shuai-Chiao/Muy Thai/San Shou school (which I am anxiously awaiting). Kirk currently runs a Shuai-Chiao class here but I am not sure where it's at right now, it was being held at the univerity of texas san antonio last time I checked.

The city is rapidly growing, and I mean RAPIDLY. It did pass Dallas on the largest cities in texas charts, but that is misleading because of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, which includes Arlington and a couple other smaller towns just outside of Dallas proper. Austin and Dallas are great cities with a much better selection of MA...IMO.

Cost of living is one of the lowest in the nation. You can get a very decent house for around 100K. Salaries will be lower but are commensurate with cost of living.

Feel free to ask for any specific info.

I do have to give RD credit as only he could create a thread that somehow blends his soap opera love life with ground fighting. :D

.Heh. You can get houses here for as low as 20K, a decent one for ~40K, and I've seen former mansions go for as little as 80K. That ought to be a clue as to how bad it has gotten. We're in the tank and its heartbreaking to see.

Wow.

Austin is great, but the cost of living is quite a bit more than SA. If you actually want to live inside the city limits, decent house will run you upwards of $140K. Nice houses on the outskirts of town are around $160-250K, and a tiny house close to downtown usually runs about $300K.

Traffic kind of sucks here too, but there is a TON of stuff to do and it's a great town.

I bet the property taxes in SA are lower too. My grandfather's in Round Rock/Williamson Co. are fairly high. Not New Jersey rape you till your poor high, but high nonetheless.

I like the slow mo one. He's useing posture rigth out of several of my forms too. Look like it might be hard for me to pull off though. I'm going to have to work on it. I like that he pretty much knees the guy in the grion as he is getting back to his feet too.

BTW, Thanks MS II for showing that one!

he didn't try to change to a single after you stepped back?

Zim's suggestion is good, find a Judo guy.

or up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.

Works every time.

for the judo guy, find one experienced with pickups and defenses against them. I've won most of my judo matches with a double leg - the people I've gone against don't sprawl or anything else fast enough. Alot of people overlook pikcups though, which is likely the reason.
