What's wrong with Red5?

I really can't understand this. It seems whenever I read a new thread there's always a new statement claiming "Red is gay" or something to that effect. I've seen alot of trolls in my day but Red doesn't seem to fit the description. I haven't really seen him say anything too rude, so I don't think he can be frowned upon in that manner. Yes, he's been wrong from time to time, but who hasn't?

Is there a piece of history I'm missing or is this forum just full of jerks? He seems to be treated like "The Liberator" on alt.martial-arts. The only difference is The Liberator is a long-time troll/flamebait, so he deserves it.

Red 5 is a bit like me in one respect:

He isn't a troll BUT he does like occasionally joking online (like the time - he really ****ed me off with this one but I know him a bit better now - that he argued that the best thing for the world would be a nuclear war) and like me he does tend to **** people off once in a while. Also he is stubborn and opinionated.

To be honest, I like red. However I have noticed that he is rather scathing about some traditional Chinese MA concepts. I find this peculiar considering this is a Chinese MA forum. I also find it a little closed-minded that he cannot respect an alternative way of looking at things from a cultural perspective.

Having said all that, I think red is OK and a pretty harmless dude ... especially since he is only 5'2" tall and does capoeira :D :D

My first experience of him was on the Wing Chun forum, where he came across as a rabidly enthusiastic fairly new student of Carl Dechiara. Been all over his state looking for the best WC guy to train with and found him in Carl, bla bla bla ...

He said some outrageously ridiculous stuff on the WC forum, and despite myself and a cast of thousands arguing with him to the point of viciousness, he never really seemed to get angry, always this infuriating mix of apparent boundless optimism and blissful ignorance that used to rile people even more.

Then he said he was quitting WC to go train MMA, like he was going to be world champ in a few years. Now he's doing Capoeira.... WTF?

That said, I really enjoyed some of those days on the WC forum, they were a lot of fun. I think Red's at least half taking the p1ss and is a lot smarter than he comes across.

Anerlich is correct about the genesis of Red5. It wasn't that he was saying dumb things about wing chun on the wing chun board, you only have to open one wing chun thread to find half the posters are doing that, but it was his particular blend of mindless optimism and well, just plain mindless that was a little frustrating! Not to mention his cult-following tendencies...

However he was quite funny... and I think he's my favourite retard.

AWESOME!!!! Another what's wrong with red thread. I was busy this weekend so haven't seen this thread until now.

Hearwa, the simple fact is it's the man trying to repress me. This forum is full of white guys - some pretending to be asian, like Gene - who feel the need to make sure that us Scot/Cherokee stay put on the bottom rung of the social ladder.


I should point out that I was on this forum for a couple of years before I became a mouth piece for a time on the WC forum. The only thing I've ever regretted in my life, short of doing MK's mom - she's huge and so's her virginia, I guess it runs in the family - is that period. I was "speaking" for someone else and fell into a cult of personality, ironic if you know anything about me I'm pretty indepedant, and contrary to popular belief, pretty open minded. I can be pretty stubborn however.
That's probably why I'm so popular on this forum. For the most part I have lots of time to post so I do :D.

True joedoe this is a CMA forum, and I studied CMA for several years. I've moved on, several times in fact, but I still find this forum has alot more then just CMA to offer. I'm not particularly oposed to CMA or most of it's practices, I just think, like a lot of people it needs to get real. In some ways I think people are starting to realize that, and there are some of those people on this forum.

I actually like Red. I think he has a healthy mind and is very logical and doesn't take anything at face value .... you need that in this field of martial arts.

What bothered me about Red -- until I got to know him -- was how quick he was to label something that he didn't really have full experience in. For this I don't blame him though. You get some non-traditional fighters slamming internal, and its easy to start throwing out the "tree huggers" and "chi balls".

On the same hand, you have very traditional guys who claim sport fighting or even challenge type matches are useless because they are never "real" and the whole stick my finger in your eyse thing..... this too is easy to jump on.

We've all been guilty of it. Just that at times Red can make the most noise in a post, but may have the least experience when it comes to the subject at hand. Chalk it up to enthusiasm. He's a nice guy and will at least tell you how he feels.

to be fair Ray, I have had experience training internal. It was only a year and a half but it was long enough to convince me there was nothing in it. I was in worse shape, got sick more and generally just wasn't impressed with the training, that's what's lead me to feel the way I do about some traditional beliefs.
Now, one could argue that maybe I didn't spend enough time, or maybe my instructor had his head up his ass. That's part of the problem though, too many people saying too many different things about how to do it and what the results are.

ZIM, feel free to ask, I like to think it was a complete learning experience. As you might be able to tell I'm pretty strong willed and tend to think for myself, whether people like it or not. To get sucked into a situation like that was an interesting experience. It was also interesting because I later realized that a particular student who went through the same sort of thing, was the target of a lot of private jokes amongst the group I belonged too. The guy seemed pretty levelheaded to me but I only knew him over the internet through a few PM's. My guess is he found the same truths I did and split, and was being badmouthed so people could save face.
See that's the funny thing about the internet. If you do bad things to people, it can get out fast. I think some people find they have to protect themselves from that by attacking before they are attacked.
I don't talk a whole lot about it because I don't want to seem petty and I certainly don't need to start flame wars with his students. Like my experience in internal training, I perceived things a certain way and feel I had enough solid backup to believe that my perceptions were pretty accurate.
As for ghost writing, let's just say I had a strongly guiding hand......

If Rogue is a Traditinal stylist he should have a map in his head so he can project his Qi into my Qi nodes. I'd probably not feel it then and Rogue would die, but I'd fall over dead the following third tuesday.
