This is a summary of several news releases.

There is this little planet named 2004MN4 something.

It is coming our way. It would pass us nearby. Or it would collide into our planet earth with the explosive power of 1900 megatons of TNT.

There is a window to intercept this planet.

It will hit us in year 2034.

Start to panic?

What is your thought?

Yeah, so scare me. If a giant meteorite hits a dessicated, dead garbage-can and no-one is alive to hear it, does it make a sound?

Run! Run now! Run far and as fast as your legs will take you!

...oh wait... that won't work.

Well, have a beer and a twinkie, everyone gets the lights out eventually. :p

I don't beleive it. there's always someone miscalculating something.
Besides, by that time we'll have hotels on the moon to escape too.

It could possibly hit the earth depending on the correction from a near miss in 2029... That correction could easily send it on a course to miss earth for the next millenium too. By 2029 (think of the scientific advances since 1980), we could very well have the means to do something more proactive about this. Give me 25 years and I might start caring.

There's over a 99% chance that in 2036 this asteroid will miss.

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . . Technically, aren't we supposed to be dead already?

What if the meteor already hit, and this world is a complex, group-created illusion, created to keep us from realizing our own horrible demise?

What if someone made me a turkey sammich with some tomatoes, lettuce, a bit of mustard/mayo, and some large pepper granules? That'd be totally awesome.

All we need is a misfit platform drilling station crew. A space shuttel and a couple well placed nuclear bombs and we're good to go. Easy. Nasa should be paying me for this stuff.

dude, well get a bunch of oil drillers in a space ship and send them up to the planet. there they can dig a whole into the center and put a nuclear bomb in there to blow it off course. ben affleck will of course be the head of this expidition.

Question: it says the Asteroid is 420m across, is that meters or miles?

I say when 2025 hits we start having live televised martial arts death matches.

What I read was over 1000 Feet Wide. So if it's 420 meters I guess that's right. That's a pretty liberal 1000 feet though.

I say we wait until AFTER the astroid hits then do the George Carlin thing. Put all of the criminals in the impact hole and have PPV television events 24/7. :D

These sorts of close calls happen all the time and we're still here. "headed right towards us" is a pretty vague definiton really, it just means "We have a vague idea where it's going and there's an infitesimal chance that it might hit us because we're somewhere in the margin of error somewhere". If you throw your pencil blindly across the room, it might hit the mosquito buzzing in the next room that you didn't notice yet, too.

eventually something big will hit us. Its inevitable. It happend before, and it will happen again. when we dont know for sure. this may be one or it may not. Remember what the moon looks like? The giant crator in mexico.

It'll happen sure, I'm not real worried about it. At some point the sun will swell up and engulf the earth, or we'll end up nukin each other into exctinction. I"m just hoping I'm around to point and laugh.

A moving planet will hit us in 2034! Could a immobile planet hit us?

Well Red, looks like no Death Match in 2034. And to think I had kept the entire year clear just for that!

Technically there is no such thing as a non-moving planet since every cosmic body is in motion. :D

If you throw your pencil blindly across the room, it might hit the mosquito buzzing in the next room that you didn't notice yet, too.Wait a minute... how the hell did YOU know that mosquito was there!!!?

By the way, jokes aside, I nailed this ****er on the first page. By that time the environmental destruction chain effects will have pretty much devastated life as we know it. We have already had our chance at paradise on earth, we will not get another one. The poverty, war, struggle, famine and disease will be increasing thousandfold in the next 50 years. Your children will be lucky (or unlucky) to live to see it.

Keep driving your 12 seater SUV's with your two enormous children in the back... you're dead, suckers.

:D This does not signify any trace of attempted humour in the above post!

:D

Gotta go, SUV tyres don't stab themselves you know.

Wel buddy, you don't pack away your lucky pair of panties just yet......

As for immobile planets, what do you mean? It's all relative in space.

Man thats ages away! I can't even decide what I'm gonna have for dinner let alone what I'm gonna be doing in 30 years! Although I think I'll have a beard by then for comedy value.

What should I have for dinner?

What sort of beard should I grow?
