There are many cultures that may imitate the cat to fight in all continents from Africa to America.

In CMA, the famous part is the cat stance or steps. It is smaller or narrower steps, quick and light. It is used a lot in Tang Lang or mantis. The advantage is to move and change quickly left to right, forward and back; up and down etc.

There is a cat step that you move one of your feet behind your other foot and advance. It is called Mao Bu or Tou Bu stealth step. From this stance, you are ready to turn around or about face. You may also move the front leg back to trip the opponent's front leg to make him fall. You may push his back at the same time. It is called Gua Ta in Ba Ji fist.

Cat claws are similar to Tiger claws with smaller arms moves. There may be more top downward, out inward and diagonal "pouncing".

So yes, cat fist or claws and steps are integral part of many CMA styles.

Cat fist "may" also be many and many people's fighting styles from Sahara desert to the Amazon jungle.

so I guess the real question is this:

is there an established chinese style with a recordable lineage, that is refered to as "cat style" or Mao Chuan?
